the dr. still wants me to start weaning because she only gained 1.5 pounds in 2 months. I'm still undecided as she's not even showing any interest in foods.

If you think she is satisfied I wouldn't. She will let you know when she needs it. 15lbs at 4mo is a good sized baby, it's not like she's really small or anything. My 2 BF babies were 16lbs 6oz at 5mo and then 15lbs 12oz at 4mo...and boys are typically a bit bigger. I think she sounds like she is doing great and if you think she is content on just your milk I would continue with that...especially if she shows no signs of wanting/needing/being ready for solids.

I agree with mommyof3co. Ava will let you know when she's ready. Alyssa is 4 months old, weighs 11lbs 2oz (and was 8lbs 4.5oz at birth) and no one has told us to start weaning her due to her weight gain or lack thereof. Ava is a thriving, healthy baby and you know her best - if she's satisfied with her nursing, then carry on as you are until she gives you signs - that's my opinion, anyhow. :)

Oh and also, I never get the "start so they gain thing" babyfood has very little calories in it. I mean it's just veggies/fruit and water...atleast at first...so not much as far as calories or fat. And when they start solids they will start to cut back on their milk intake which has all the fat and calories...so that never makes sense to me.

Thanks girls. I mean. She's in the 80th percentile. She's not a small baby at all. The dr did say that she was so healthy because she was breastfed (not that formula-fed babies aren't healthy) but breast feeding is SO encouraged in my area.

That's great! It can be hard to find that kind of support and a dr that actually knows alot about breastfeeding :)

alys was 15lbs and 8oz two weeks ago and this monday was weighed and she was 15lbs 7.5oz so the hv was like ohh make sure you bring her next week to get her weighed just incase!! (just incase what!? please lol) not to mention last time she was weighed she had a feed straight before!!! and didnt this time! stupid woman! lol but she didnt tell me to start weaning! im sure you'l know when the time is right

xxxxxx

Caitlyn was 16lb at 4 months, she's only 18lb at a year and obviously weaned. Weaning won't help atall IMO. I didn't wean Caitlyn (onto food) untill 6 months and she has maintained the same weight gain of a couple of oz every month since 4 months. Food, if anything, slowed down her weight gain.

You are mummy and you know best!

Hey hun , My daughter was born on 13th Feb and only weighs 9lb 7oz from 5lb 9oz! They have been trying to get me to wean too and I have refused. I posted on here last week about it. There are far more calories in breast milk than any other food. The choice is yours but it is a choice hun, don't let them push you into it.

How is your breast feedin? Is your lo happy and settled or otherwise?

That is great hun, wish that was my doc xxx

Amelie didnt weigh that much at 4 months :\ 15lbs4 is a really good size for a 4 month old IMO.
