At my scan this week, they found my cervix has shortened to only 4mm (no dilation). Docs are concerned about pre-term labor. They didn't recommend the cerclage or vaginal progesterone (they usually do that earlier in pregnancy). Instead they inserted a rubber pessary ring that should help stop the cervix form shortening any more. I've also been put on bed rest for the duration of the pregnancy. The goal is to get to at least 32 weeks with this support. Baby is now 2lbs 4 oz.

At 30 weeks, my sister had a 1.5 cm cervix. They put her on progesterone and bed rest and she delivered a healthy baby girl at 38 weeks.

Have any of you used the pessary? Or even had a cerclage/progesterone around this time? and how much longer were you able to carry?

Thanks!

I don't think that you have much to worry about normally doctors don't worry much untill it is less than 3 cm which is still really good at 3 . My cervix is at 1.2 and has been since 20 weeks. I had a cerclage at 13 weeks and progesterone at 20 due to funneling. I think that right now you are and don't have much to worry about I would kill for your cl. Good luck hope this helps

Thanks for your reply-I think you may have misread- its actually less than half cm left (4mm) so I am worrying quite a bit.

It makes me hopeful to see you've made it to 31 wks so far. Best of luck!!

Hi, my cervix was 1.6cm at 20 weeks and I had a stitch put in 6 days ago. Your baby sounds a really good weight and Im guessing with bedrest you should make into the 30's. The good thing is your practically 28 weeks so should your little man make an appearance his chances are really good.

Im almost 21 weeks and im counting down the days till 24 weeks - 23 days to go! If im lucky enough to hit 24 weeks i'll breath a *slight* sigh of relief.

Good luck, just try and stay calm and think positive xx

myra i went into ptl (they stopped it) at 26 weeks am 2cm dilated and bulging membranes I had a stitch at 19 weeks it failed and was removed when i started contracting, I'm now 28 week still pregnant and no sign of going back into labour yet have been told i will probs have my boy early but that they don't really know when and i could go to term, no dilation is a good sign but even with dilatation like me you can go for weeks, follow orders and rest, the ring isn't avalible here but i have read good things about it good luck and keep calm. :hugs:

Thanks for all of your replies- sorry I didn't respond sooner. It's been a chaotic few days. My water broke Saturday morning as I was just lying in bed. so we came straight to the hospital. I was on the labor and delivery floor for observation that whole day. Once my contractions (they were minor) subsided, I was moved to the antenatal floor where I'll stay til baby is born.

We've made it through the first hurdle by not going into labor in 1st 48 hours. Doc said the next spike in deliveries usually occurs at 1 week after membrane breaks- so that will be the next milestone. Majority go into labor w/in the week (or have to be induced because of infection). But if we get through the week w/o delivering, there's a good chance he will be able to hold on for several more weeks. They are treating me with antibiotics to prevent infection.

We've already met with doctors from NICU who told us what to expect for delivery and his treatment after he is born. He would likely stay in the hospital until end of June, his due date.

It's scary~ going to hospital to have a baby is supposed to be exciting (at least it was when I imagined it)...not like this. I'm working on revising my expectations and I don't need exciting any more-- just praying for him to be healthy. Each day longer that he stays in, the better it will be for him on the outside.

You are in the best place hun and fingers crossed your baby cooks for a little while longer. It sounds like you have a wee fighter in there and wont come easy. Thinking of you xx

Myra , just to say I had my little boy at 28+3, that was 4 years ago. He weighed 2lb 14oz. He's now a healthy, noisy and gorgeous bundle of energy. You wouldn't know he was 12 wks early looking at him now. Hope all goes ok for you and your little one xx

Hi
I had pPROM at 27*4. I am now 34 weeks.
I spent 5 weeks in a tertiary hospital, then I was transferred to another hospital when I reached 32 weeks. My goal has always been 35 for my long term. Short term in the first week was 24, 48 and 72 hours then it was weekly.
It's a mentally draining path but you can do it.

I survived by limiting visitors so that I was actually getting rest. Also take photos of everything. I did yum meals horrible meals and my toes.

There it a pPROM support group on fb too. Lots of woman are a wealth of knowledge and its great seeing people's journeys.

Thinking of you guys and wishing you all the best :hugs:

I hope your lo stays cooking for many weeks to come. There is a good premature & Nicu babies board on here if you have any questions about the neonatal journey.

Good luck xx

Thanks for your kind words, resources and for sharing your stories. OH and I are touched by everyone's kindness.

Made it through the 24 hour mark...48 hours...now 72....and on to day 4

Well, we're starting Day 6 and baby is looking great! We thought we were going to have to induce yesterday because he had several decelerations during his non stress test Tuesday & we spent the day on the labor & delivery floor for monitoring. Doc said it evened out enough and his heart rate went back to a good range so she was inclined to let him stay cooking.
