I just got back from my growth scan, and I was told baby has jumped from the 53rd percentile to the 77th percentile. At 28 weeks he was a little over 2 pounds. Now he's 5 pounds! They told me it was great, and everything was going perfectly, however I am having a mini panic attack that he's going to be too big. I was hoping for a nice 7 pound baby, but I don't think that's going to happen now. I just really, REALLY don't want to have a c-section. I want to push him out the old fashioned way.

I don't think there's anything I'm doing that would have caused him to grow so fast. I passed the gd test, and I'm not over eating. In fact most nights I have to force feed myself as I'm never hungry.

Am I just freaking out over nothing?

You probs are. They are notoriously inaccurate those growth scans. Try not to worry too much. x

I have birth at 35 weeks and my boy was 5lb 14oz which was considered big so I should imagin they have over estimated the size.

DS was born weighing 6.5 lbs at 34w6d so quite big. This LO is just above the top centile line so estimated 5.5lbs at 32 week scan. I have no fear though because I strongly believe our bodies grow the baby we are able to deliver. It is actually quite rare that a baby is truly too big to fit through our pelvis. This will often be blamed by doctors to justify the need for intervention/EMCS but its not always the case. :flower:

And I figure, worrying about a babies size won't make them any smaller and it is possible the measurements could be off. Yes all sorts of things *could* make delivering your baby difficult but the one thing that *will* make it difficult is worry/stress and that is something you can control. :)

I think they over estimate.... I had a scan at 33 weeks he was measuring at 5lbs 8oz Now at 37 weeks he is measuring 6lbs 8oz ... I would take the scans of a grain of salt... They can be a 1lb or more off..

At my 28 week scan my LO measured 3lbs!! That scared me big style!

Well if you're worried about having a vaginal birth, even 5 lbs at 32 weeks isn't *thhhatttt* huge. I think babies gain around half a pound a week, so assuming you have 8 weeks left that's only an additional 4 pounds. While 9 pounds is on the larger end of a baby, lots of babies that are 9 pounds are born vaginally. Plus, ultrasounds are notorious for being way off on baby weight :)

at my 32 week scan baby was 4.2lbs.... im guessing maybe he will be a 7.5 - 8lbs baby???

My doctor told me that the only I can do that affects baby's weight is the amount of sugar I eat- more sugar can equal bigger baby. But that doesn't mean that's the only way to have a big baby- genetics also play a part. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it too much. They can be way off, and generally overestimate to cover themselves (this is what they told me at the place that does my growth scans).

Mine was estimated 5lbs 9oz at 32 weeks even (and was told it was 74th percentile?). At 35 weeks, he was estimated to be 6lbs 10oz (86th percentile)...don't worry, our bodies generally know what they're doing, we just have to let them do it! My sis-in-law came from a family of small/average sized babies, is a very fit and small person, and she gave birth to a 10lb 4oz baby and a 9lb 1oz baby with no problem!

Thank you everyone for the reassurance! I think maybe I won't pay so much attention to the scans then. It was a new girl doing it, so maybe she just did things differently. Also, I kept trying to look at what the machine said for each measurement and I kept seeing it say 33 weeks 3 days, which means he can't possibly be 5 pounds. Hmmm... I guess we'll find out in 8 weeks!

At my friends 33 week scan, she was told baby weighed about 6 1/2 lb, when baby arrived at 42 weeks she was only 6lb 14 oz!! So mw reckoned the scan estimate was well off!! They way I see lt too is that slightly bigger babies are easier to push out as there is more to push on!! Xx

I agree with *2016* I don't believe that you would produce a baby that is too big to fit through your pelvis. Nature is a clever thing and if you are eating well and have passed your GTT then don't panic.

DD2 was a whopper at 10lb 3oz and I had a perfectly natural delivery and didn't even tear! I get my growth scan for this bumpy next week. The consultant is possibly wanting me to be induced on my due date if he presents big... But I'm leaving my options open as I'm due 17th dec and really don't want to be giving birth on Xmas day when I've got two gorgeous girls I don't want to miss Xmas with x

My scan a week before I had my first son actually was estimated 3 pounds more than he actually was when he was born. I thought that was a huge margin of error but apparently it's harder to measure them as they get larger.

I don't know anyone who has had an accurate weight guess!

I had mine at 31+6 and baby is estimated to be 5lb 3oz have another scan at 36 weeks I was induced in my last two pregnancys due to larger babies and having bad spd xx

When pregnant with Sophie I had a scan at 32 weeks and she was estimated at 5lbs 6ozs, she was born 8lb 13.5ozs

They say the baby puts on a lb every 2 weeks to your probably looking at a 8lber - BUT as people have said, these scans are only an estimate so it can be completely wrong and no where near

I hope it was wrong! Either way I'm sure it will work out. I kinda get a funny feeling that he's coming early anyway, although I can't really explain why, so I guess it's a good thing if he's putting on weight.

However I am kicking myself for cutting all the tags off the drawer full of newborn clothing. (I wanted to wash and put it away, lol.)

I also had a scan at 32+3 and they also said she was 5 ibs and the say it was normal. I have been on Google and seen that most places it says its normal, so I don't know. I have been worried too but I just want her to be healthy and have a good start in life. I don't care any more if its gone be a c section anymore, I was really against it but I think its just something I have to deal with. All the best too and we can worried together xx

Sophie was 8lbs 13.5ozs and still fit in newborn clothing for about 3/4weeks, 0-3 completely swamped her so you should be ok xx
