5 week 3 days Ultrasound

Has anyone had an ultrasound around this time? I had one last week and we saw a gestational sac and a very light shadow of a yolk sac (I couldnt really see it that well but dr assured us it was there). Is that what I should be seeing at that point?

Yeah I had one at 5 weeks 5 days. They could see sac but no fetal pole ( baby) as too early. Was told it was a good sign. Went back at 7 and half weeks and saw baby and heartbeat x x

hi,, I had a USS today (5+2 by LMP) thats exactly what she saw. Sac and what she "thinks" was a yolk sac... im just hoping when i go back next monday FP and FH will be there! THey wont rule out ectopic until they see these!
(had ectopic at 8wks in feb)

They also noticed a corpus Luteum cyst on my right ovary which has started to bleed into itself (apparently normal) more common in clomid preg - which this is so that made me feel better... although i have to say looked that up myself.. the sonographer commented on EVERYTHING!! she wouldnt say ANYTHING for definate and gave ma about 10 diff reasons for everything which was annoying!

I know she did it as i do have knowledge and some exp of USS but i just wanted her to look in my bloody tube!!! THe only thing she said was it looks "promising" BUT we cant rule anythign out until we see where the baby grows!!

Im not sure I understand that. If the baby implanted then thats pretty much where it gonna grow unless your's implanted really high up. Is that what they said? They should be able to rule out ectopic otherwise if they saw a sac in the uterus.

Let me know what they tell you at your next scan. Im curious. Im sure your little beanie is snuggled in just the right spot and will grow perfectly!!!!




*JanuaryMom - I believe thats all you'll see at this gestation. I go for my first prenatal doctors appt tomorrow morning and I will be exactly 5 wks. I wonder if he'll do a scan. If he does, I'll let you know if they see anything.

Yep. That's what you should be seeing around this point. Around 6 weeks you'll start to see the fetal pole. I had one last week at 5 weeks and 2 days, and they were able to see the yolk sac and gestational sac.

I have a scan tomorrow and i think i will only be 5ish weeks - eek!

i had a scan at 6.3 last time and they were happy with what they seen, they have to be so careful with what they say nowadays

RNmommy: Yes your would think they would rule it out.. the problem is (and i had this last time with a ectopic) but sometimes it can be what is called a pseudo sac.. it looks like a normal gestational sac but is not usually as smooth and often filled with blood. In the early stages it can be confused for a gest sac. We did look for ages at the yolk sac and i defo think it was so im sure it is all ok but until i see the HB i wont be happy. - Until then you cant actually seen the tube as such (only if something is in the tube can they clearly see it. )

Oh, ok. I didn't know that. My specialty is ER not OB/GYN so I learn new stuff everyday on this site!!!! I love it. Although, the more I learn, sometimes the more it scares me. LOL! But knowledge is power I guess.

Okay ......new to this. I'm going for a early scan. I think I'm like 5weeks, I was so looking forward to hearing my little1s heartbeat.
But right now I just wanna know my baby's okay. I've had cramping for like 5 days, went to the a&e today (Sunday) and he referd me str8 away to have a scan. I'm so nervous. But excited at the same time. Any advise would be great

HarrysBoo - Im 5 wks tomorrow and will hopefully get a scan at my GYN's office. I remember when I had my first prenatal visit with my son I was probably about 5 weeks and all he could see was a sac but told me everything was fine. That's probably all we'll see this time too. But thats good enough for me!!!

Ive been having some on and off cramping too. Thats normal for early pregnancy. But if its so bad that it has you curling over, then there might be something wrong. But mild cramping is normal hun!!! FX for you!

Wow - lots of people getting super early scans! My doc won't scan before 6-7 weeks as you rarely see anything and just have to go back in another week to see the HB and measure the embryo. Even with my bleeding issues I still didn't get a scan until 7w.
Just curious - why do your docs want to scan so early?

With my son mine just did as part of the regular visit just to make sure everything was in the right place. And I remember seeing the little sac on the screen. I didn't have another one done after that until the following month, so probably 9 weeks.

Ive moved since then so this is a different doctor for me but Im thinking he will probably do the same thing. I think a lot of docs do it like that to prevent complications and loss of tubes if it is ectopic. Thats what Ive gotten from it.

Im not gonna complain though, the earlier I can get one, the better.

Im gonna see if my fellow ER co-workers will try out the machine we have in the ER on me later on ....haha.

Thats what happened with my son. One of the girls I worked with at my old hospital, she was an ultrasound tech and she did one for me at 16 weeks and thats when I found out I was having a boy...LOL....4 weeks sooner than I would have waiting for the official 20 week scan. YAY!!!
