Until the last few days my 5 week old has had periods of being unsettled but generally very good. The last few days she begins to cry about 7 and doesn't stop screaming for 3-4 hours!! Is very distressing and I've tried gripe water infacol etc but nothing seems to help? Any tips? When will it end! My eldest dd goes to bed just as the screaming starts!

My DD1 used to cry at tea time every day. Looking back I think she was over tired and/or windy/colicky but she was very resistant to sleep.

DD2 is more laid back but when she would get grizzly I put her upright against me in her carrier and walk around and she would go off to sleep

oh bless her. Sounds like it could be trapped wind that has built up and also she could be overtired. Have you tried her in a swing? My eldest 2 used to love the swing and would always fall asleep in it if they were fighting their sleep. We got the swing out of the loft today for our youngest (3 months) and he also seems to like it. Are you bf or ff? When my LO was newborn I had to watch what i was eating as some foods would make him really uncomfy and windy so he would take longer to settle. x

Also try winding her lots during a feed as this can sometimes help. x

Ours went through that at that age. It's called the witching hour or purple crying. It really is heart breaking though. The only thing that worked for our DD was taking turns walking her around the kitchen bouncing a little in step, swaddling, and car rides to sleep. It was always from 7pm-11pm. It last a little over a month. Good luck momma.

Ah yeah, sorry you're going through it. Should be over in a few weeks. Meantime, you can try-
Putting LO in a sling and going for long walks
Putting the Hoover or hair dryer on
Holding LO and bouncing on a yoga ball

But yes - it will end, don't worry... It is rubbish though

Yes, the 5 s's are awesome!! Look up "happiest baby on the block" on youtube! I found it long after my daughter was past that stage but I have friends who swear by it!

Here's a quick example: https://youtu.be/WkR_e1L6zxI

I am in the same stage as you. Its normal for babies to have an evening fussy time, unfortunately some babies cry and fuss more than others. The 5 Ss are saving us right now!!

That's for all your responses. Each evening seems to just be getting worse tonight it's been 5 hours and still going.....

Hugs! The crying peaks 6-8 weeks (sooner for some- I hope this is your peak) and gradually will get better. My little boy settles with loud white noises- hairdryer, static radio stations, washing machines, loud shhhhhhhing sounds- louder than the crying, etc. But the evenings are tough, its hours of actively trying to calm him. It will get better! Hang in there Mama!

My daughter did this for about 3 weeks , nothing worked (gripe water, swaddling ) and then suddenly just stopped !! I know all Babys are different. Hope it ends quickly for you too ! :)
