Hi

I'm 6 weeks pregnant :)

This is my second pregnancy. With my first I didn't suffer from morning sickness which was great! :) I understand each pregnancy is different but last week I met my midwife and she explained that I should be taking 5mg of Folic Acid as I'm overweight. I started taking it on Friday and I have felt sick every day since it's horrid and I've just thought this morning it could be because of the FA. I was just taking the normal dose of FA before Friday and was feeling fine.

Anyone else feeling sick taking 5mg???

Hello and congratulations!! :) sorry I can't offer any advice about the FA but hope you stop feeling sick soon!

Heyy :hi:
With my first pregnancy although I had major morning sickness, the FA never added to it but multi vitamins did, still do & even more so now I'm pregnant again! Are you taking a multi vit too? Try taking your FA after a meal, this helps me atm as I can't get into the docs so taking my FA as part of the multi vits I have xx

Hi Gemma

I'm just taking FA and Vit D that's all I've been told to take. I've just taken the old dose of FA and I feel normal again not that sickness feeling which I've felt for the last few days :)

That's great news! We all dread morning sickness, but I feel it's worse when it's due to a pill we need rather than the bub! Silly bodies

It's just so strange that I was feeling fine before I started taking a higher dose of Folic acid :)

I'm over weight and it made me sick as well nasty tablet :) hope u feel better soon go to doc and explain making you ill

I'm taking it and feeling really sick but I never linked the 2 to be honest this is my first pregnancy so I just assumed the sickness was just normal rather than to do with the tablet :/ not sure now hum guess I'll keep taking it coz it helps the baby

I only thought it could be the increase in Folic acid as it's from Friday that I've felt like this. I also feel hungry all the time at the minute but luckily not craving bad things

Hope you feel better soon & congratulations :)

I was ok till I started taking it as well to be honest but I just assumed coz I was getting further into the pregnancy!
Do you stop taking it in second trimester or so you take it for the whole pregnancy? I'm new to all this & not really sure!!

I am overweight and have never been told to take extra folic acid! I hope everything is ok.

Can you get a smaller dose and take it more often or cut it in half maybe?

Wafflewaffle-folic acid is very important when the neural tube is forming, which is at the very beginning of pregnancy (28 days after conception) and also my doctor told me there have been studies that show that women who take it while ttc and during pregnancy have a smaller risk of a child having autism. I would take it the whole time, just in case, but I think most people stop after the first trimester.

here is aan article I found after a quick google about folic acid and neural tube defects. :) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3279093/

I've been told you don't need to take it past 12 week as it's done its job (hopefully) :) but ask your midwife what he/she thinks :)

I was taking a normal dose that you get from a health food shop but it's all new this time round as with my first pregnancy I wasn't told to take extra and that was only last year.

I've had morning sickness in both my previous pregnancies - with my son I was taking a pre-natal vitamin and it made me so much more sick! I switch to just FA and felt much better. With my daughter I just took plain FA again and felt worse.
I think maybe its down to different pregnancies?!?!
I haven't been taking FA this time as this has come as a surprise - will get myself to Boots later on!! x

I read some where last night that the more sickness you get could mean a multiple pregnancy - I actually couldn't sleep last night worrying hehe :) but when I came downstairs this morning I looked at the FA and thought it could be that as I was fine before Friday :)

Yes I've heard that before! Thankfully I am no sicker than with my first two lol, or OH would seriously be freaking out! I wonder if I'm having a boy as I'm sick once, each morning and that's all. With my daughter I felt rough constantly! I also gulp down orange juice like its going out of fashion and I did that with my son too! lol x
