Has anyone else been prescribed this high dose had my first midwife appointment today and she said that my doctor should have told me, but even the chemist was surprised by the prescription. I am now really worried that I am 9 weeks and only just starting the higher dose !!

I am on 5mg as well. I think it is common in "higher risk" pregnancies. After the first trimester I was told to go down to 1mg.

But, Folic acid is a water soluble vitamin, so really you probably pee most of it out.

Well, that probably doesn't help any...do you know why you were prescribed 5mg? And how much were you taking before?

I was just taking the normal 400mg, I am not really sure I am classed as high risk because of my bmi so maybe it's that. I should have asked more questions but was feeling rubbish and a bit faint and the room was so hot I just wanted to get out !!

If it's only your bmi then I don't think that is a reason to need the higher dose. I am a bit on the high side and have even seen a consultant so far for drugs and they told me standard dose. The main reason for the higher dose is if you are on something like anti-epilieptic drugs or you have already had a pregnancy with a neural tube defect in the past.
But if they've prescribed it take it anyway. Your body doesn't store any excess so it can't do any harm.

I've been on 5mg since I started TTC because I'm diabetic.
