Hi ladies. I'm 5w6d and got my BFP at 10dpo. All was well until I started spotting brown for the last 3 mornings. It's only when I wipe, and only after a bowel movement (tmi!!), other than a little last night before bed. It's not a dark brown, more like the colour of a brown lipgloss (!), but there were a couple of tiny dark patches yesterday and today - like tiny clots only about 1mm in diameter. I scraped the clot with my fingernail (uugh!) and it spread out the same colour as the rest of the gunk, like it was just a concentrated patch.

I'd had a really hectic weekend where I'd done a fair bit of physical exercise, and we'd bd'd on Sunday, so I'm hoping it's just that. I went to my GP Tuesday morning and he referred me for an early scan on Tuesday 1st when I'll be 6w5d. Thing is, he was really pessimistic and said that 1 in 2 women suffer a miscarriage in their lives, and 1 in every 5 or 6 pregnancies ends in miscarriage. Tbh I'd just expected him to tell me it's completely normal and send me packing!

I haven't had any cramps to speak of, just a general bloated feeling and lower back ache. Maybe some ache in my lower abdomen too. I haven't had an pg symptoms, just slightly tender nips which are kind of purple now (?!) and I had been starving hungry but now I'm not really. I'm hoping that the lack of crazy starving hunger is maybe my body gearing up to give me morning sickness?

Basically though, I'm terrified, and I'm hoping someone out there can offer me some advice or tell me they've experienced the same thing and things have worked out fine...

Please help! x

I had brown spotting off and on until about 8 weeks. I was also terrified and immediately went in for a scan. I saw the heartbeat and everything was fine. From everything that I've been reading brown spotting is pretty normal. It could be implantation bleeding or just old blood.

I also had brown spotting, only after a bm and in the morning. I had it at 5w2d to 5w5d. I asked my midwife about it and she said that it sounds like implantation blood, which is very common and happens around the 4-6 week mark. Brown blood is old blood, which is completely fine and common. If it turns redish, then you should call your dr.

Your GP sounds like a tool to me!! What a jerk! I had "brown" spotting when I was 5+3 (it was like a dusty rose color and not a lot, no cramping or bright red blood) Don't worry, it sounds like "normal" pregnancy spotting (not really "normal" but it is VERY common) About this time the egg is burrowing itself even deeper in the uterus which can cause a second round of implantation bleeding, but since you already know you're preggers you think its mc spotting... don't fret, kick your feet up (even at your desk if you work) and try to breathe. Nurse said it was either caused by straining to go or the vaginal progesterone suppositories I have to insert and I may have knicked my cervix. My hubby lives in a different state, but sex and a t/v u/s can do it too.

Thanks so much ladies, that's what I wanted to hear! Yes Brittles, I think he is a tool! I've taken the last two days off sick. I'm lucky I just texted my admin officer to tell my boss I was sick, haven't thought what I'll say to him yet! I have had some pains in my lower abdomen this afternoon, only minor pains and more like pin pricks or stabbing than cramping. My lower back also aches a bit. Do you guys think this is just my uterus stretching or whatever? X

I have had pink not brown spotting since yday, had my HCG levels checked and they are more than doubling. I also had brown spotting with my DS and was told it was "old blood". x

Hi hopeful, are you in manchester in the uk? I didn't know you could get hcg levels checked easily here, thought it was an American thing? X

It could be your corpus leutem ( the follicle that releases your egg turns into this to help produce progesterone) I was having sharp pains on my right side and I knew that was the side I ovulated from because I did an IUI and I had no eggs on the left side when they did their ultrasounds. So I was terrified it was an ectopic. Went in for a scan @ 5+4 and I had not one but TWO corpus leutums!! My ovary was about 81mmx70mmx65mm!!! Nurse said thats what the pain was from and almost put me on bed rest because of how big they were!! So unless you see bright red blood and cramps worse than AF cramps I wouldn't worry!!:hugs:

I had brown spotting/discharge from 5-6 weeks right through to 15 weeks! I was told it was probably old blood from implantation but whatever it was I'm 17+4 now and everything's fine!
