Has anyone else gone through this? My 6 month old was a terrible sleeper up until 3-4 weeks ago where he finally got into a routine of 2-3 solid naps per day, and then sleeping 8pm-7am waking once for a feed.

The past few days have been awful. He caught a cold which kept him up and now that the cold has passed, he is still completely off.

Yesterday he took 0 naps between 7 am - 8 pm and no matter what I did I couldn't get him to settle down for one. Not even in the car.

Then he finally went to bed at 8pm and woke up this morning for the day at 4:45 am!!! It's now 2pm and he hasn't napped yet...he just cries any time I try to put him down.

Will this pass or do I need to do some training to get him back on sleep? I don't want to leave him to cry if possible. I am utterly exhausted as now I have a cold and slight fever and I also have a 2 year old to look after.

Yes it will pass. 6 months is a really tricky time for sleep what with the start of weaning, a growth spurt and huge development leaps. Do what you need to do to survive, he may need a bit extra help getting to sleep if he usually self settles. I hope you feel better soon as well because it's miserable looking after a non sleeping baby when you're ill.

We've had this on and off for a few months. Our son is 8 months and his sleep pattern is really variable but he generally wakes twice a night. Sometimes it's every 2 hrs, other times he can go from 8 till 5am. I'm hoping that it will settle a bit once I am back at work and he is at nursery but who knows. He seems to go from one cold to another and tummy troubles due to new foods can unsettle him too. When he is bad, I just set up a bed for me on his bedroom floor so I can feed him there and not worry about falling asleep. This didn't work the other night though as he just wanted to sit up not lay down and feed from me. I agree just do what you can and worry about bad habits etc later!
