Hi Ladies,

I have been taking Clomid CD2-6 50mg for 6 months and no success. My Dr is now talking about IUI, has anyone went through this and what does it involve as I'm slightly confused and worried?

i have been taking clomid for 2 months the 1st month i had 50mg 3-7 and the 2nd month 100mg 3-7 the 1st month i had IUI and the 2nd month i didnt do an IUI but my DR. said that the IUI has a better chance of you becoming pregnant because the really tiny tube with the semen in it that they going to put inside you passes through your cerix hope this helps GL :)

Thanks, I was just worried it was going to be invasive and painful, just wanted some advice on it from someone who had been through it so thank you

this is my 2nd IUI cycle, each cycle I had 2 days of back to back IUI's, so 4 IUI's in total.
it doesn't hurt so much, more like a pap smear, but they don't use a gel to put the catheter in, so if you're dry in there (I was at the first one) it may hurt a little.
maybe this is TMI but if you have a manual orgasm before going to doctor the IUI passes more comfortable as you're wet inside and things slip easily.
also my cervix was closed in all the 4 IUI's, they use some tools to open it and it hurts just for a second, don't be afraid and good luck. xx

Thanks monalisa, it lets me know what im getting myself into as I didnt really know what happened. How do they know when to do the IUI do you have to go for blood tests etc to determine when you are ovulating?

it depends on the meds you're using, some couples have natural IUI's (they test with OPKs to catch the LH surge for IUI Timing), some use clomid and some use injectables.
We were using injectables, starting at CD2 I went in for bloodtests and scans every 2-3 days. They kept track of my estrogen levels in blood and follicle sizes by scans. When the follicles are mature they give a trigger shot and time the IUI based on that shot. For example, I had the trigger shot on wednesday and had 2 IUI's on thursday and friday.
I hope it's not confusing, your doctor should explain the process in detail.

No thats great thank you for explaining the process lets me know what im in for

is the 50mg of clomid making you ovulate? I would hae throught the next step would be to increase the clomid dose before IUI but if the 50mg is working then perhaps not?? I've not had IUI so I'm afraid I can't offer any advice there, but I was originally on 50mg of clomid and it didn't work so I am now on 100mg.
Fingers crossed that your next step works!!!

Hi, yes Clomid is working and making me ovulate just not had any success catching the eggs yet

My dr is starting me on clomid, estradiol, and then a progesterone gel. It will be my 3rd clomid cycle but he says the success rate is higher as the other hormones will prepare my lining etc to accept the egg.
