We were just getting into a bit of a routine with me feeding or rocking her to sleep, then putting her down in our bed and patting her till she fell asleep properly (she always wakes a little as I put her down). I make sure the bedroom is dark (we do have a little night light so I can see where she is in the bed) and quiet at night, and make the house bright and noisy in the day, and she seemed to be starting to understand the difference between night and day.

But 3 nights ago she spent 3 1/2 hours screaming with wind or something. And since then she's been next to impossible to get to sleep. I've rocked her, fed her, patted her back, walked up and down with her, tried white noise, even tried swaddling which she hates, and she just keeps crying. Not even real crying, but a funny sort of whinging cry. Periodically she stops and appears to be asleep, but then randomly starts up again. It's heartbreaking to have spent 15 minutes or so patting her till my arm falls asleep, only for her to cry the moment I stop patting!

Obviously at some point we are both exhausted and fall asleep, only for it to be repeated 2 hours later after her next feed.

Any ideas?

Is she drawing her knees up? Im wondering if its colic. If its worse in the evening and she is unconsolable then it could be (my LO had this and it was awful.) Speak to your HV and see what she says. If its colic then Id ask for colief straight away (I tried infacol, dentinox, gripe water etc which in hindsight was a total waste of time) x

It sounds like either a growth spurt or colic to me. I had many nights like this with my little girl. On a growth spurt she would whinge more than cry and would only sleep on me or OH. The reason she probably wanted to sleep on us was because we were warm and it probably eased her discomfort kind of like how a hot water bottle feels like on an ache or pain for us. Try feeding her again and try sleeping with her if you can, like cuddling her.

The best way of easing my LO's colic in the early days had to be the colief drops that you put in the bottles.

Hope this kinda helped! I know what you're going through Hun, it does get easier!

My baby is the same way it's frigging exhausting to say the least! ... She's starting to get better

Hadn't thought about a growth spurt. The other night when she screamed was colic, but last night was different. but We did manage to get some sleep in the end. Usually if all else fails she will sleep happily in my arms but not last night. In the end I had to give her a dummy so at least she wasn't crying and just wait for her to get sleepy- if she's calm then she normally only stays awake for an hour. I hate giving her a dummy though because she can't keep hold of it herself so I have to put it back in every 2 minutes till she's asleep!
