Hi there,
I'm 6 weeks pregnant and a few nights ago I started bleeding. It was quite a bit of blood and it stopped in 5 minutes. I was pretty scared of a miscarriage. I went to the doctor and he checked and said my cervix was closed so it wasn't coming from inside. He was still worried so I got in for an emergency ultrasound. We saw the heartbeat and the doctor said everything was fine but couldn't locate the source of the bleeding. Now, it's dark brown and mucus like when I wipe. Quite a bit as well. Is this normal?

The general rule (and of course there are always exception) is that if its brown blood then its old and not to get too worried about it. If its bright red then its fresh and you should worry about. Unfortunately there are cases where women will tell you they had brown blood and ended up miscarrying BUT your doctor has checked you and found your cervix closed and a heartbeat.
I bled like that a couple of times at about 7 weeks and I now have a very happy and healthy baby girl! I know its hard not to worry but try not to get yourself too uptight!

Hugs and good luck!

Did the bleeding ever stop? Sometimes bleeding happens in some pregnancies and the cause is never pinpointed. It is a good sign that the heart beat was detected. Hope everything is alright.

Hope you and baby are ok. Great news that your cervix was still closed. I've heard of bleeding in pregnancy being from a ruptured cyst on your ovary. They would be able to see that on a vaginal ultrasound. I know my sister had pretty consistent spotting and bleeding during her pregnancies and she has 2 beautiful boys. Good luck!

I had the same thing yesterday, I had bright red blood when I wiped twice. I had bloods and a scan and we saw bubs heartbeat and everything looked healthy. They did find a blood pocket on the outside of my uterus, so I'm on bed rest or as much as I can with an 18mo.
My doctor said it can or cannot be dangerous, if more than 50% bleeds into my uterus then it is dangerous for baby. I just suffered a miscarriage in July so I'm praying all goes ok with this bub.

Good luck to you, rest as much as you can x
