Paige has always been very quiet and shy. Even as a young toddler and all through nursery she was not the type of child who approached people, she wouldn't actively go out of her way to be included in things and she was always a bit of a push over.
She is now 6 and is still quite the same. Maybe not quite so bad, her teachers say that although she is quiet, and soft spoken, her confidence is growing and she has alot of friends. The thing that bothers me is that she often comes across as quite rude. My friend walks her home from dancing, and says that Paige doesn't say a word to her, just smiles awkwardly. When we are walking to school, lots of kids say 'Hi Paige!' and she just looks at them and doesn't Greet them back. I'm worried that people will think she is rude and not very nice!
Even at her dancing (and she is so confident at dancing and doesn't bat an eye at performing on her own in front of an audience) if her teacher speaks to her she barely utters a word.
I always tell her to say hello back to others, and always answer people when they are being kind and friendly, as it's really not nice to ignore them... but she doesn't take it on board.
Is there anything I can do to encourage her? I completely accept that she isn't a loud, obnoxious and boisterous child (and am actually quite thankful as my other two most certainly are!) but it just seems rude and dont want her to be portrayed that way
