8 Month Old Gagging

Noah has been weaned since he was 4 months old. He started on purees and from 6 months he's been a mix of BLW and purees (the stage 2 pouches) just the last day or 2 he has been gagging on his food he won't eat any purees whether they are stage 1 or 2 and is just gagging on them. He will however eat toast, banana etc just not the purees. Any idea on what this could be? We never experience this with the other 2 x

I think with "real" food you can tell by sight and touch what texture it will be, how much chewing it takes etc. whereas the lumpy purees can catch LOs off guard because they don't know what is coming.

My LO would always gag on soft mushy things when she was teething too - I have no idea why but she'd be fine on an apple but sruggle with mash

If LO is good at coping with everything except the pouches maybe you should just go with all finger food and ditch the pouches - it will be a lot cheaper!

Thank you for your reply, we were discussing this last night however I've never BLW before so I don't really know what I can give him apart from fruit, veg, fish or toast LOL ... think I'll have to do some googling! X

Pizza (home made to avoid high sugar/salt content), pasta (you could use left over puree for the sauce), porridge, scrambled egg, Mashed potato, cooked broccoli/carrots/sweetpotato, corn, humous, chicken, stew, lasagne, basically anything that you know isn't too salty.

I tended to mix and match things that would allow her to experiment and things that I knew she could handle easier so as to fill her up a bit.

BLW is when you don't feed purées. A BLW baby has never eaten purées or been spoon fed (except perhaps on the odd occasion, eg if they were sick and would only eat, say, yoghurt). You can't wean with both TW and BLW, it's a contradiction. Both combined is TW with finger foods.
