Hi

Im just wondering been reading a few threads re bottles and just got me thinking my little boy has far 2 much he is almost 8 months but is on 45oz a day he has 5 9oz bottles through the day sometimes 6 and he drains them most of the time he is also on 3 meals a day. Should i now be cutting some of his bottles since he doesnt seem to want to drop any?

Thanks
xx

Wow 45oz....I thought Aymens 30oz was alot!

They say that they should be having around only 20oz a day....but more if he needs it, ur the best judge tho really!

thanks :-) he just seems to still need it or u would think he wouldnt drink it.

Hi hun, do you give him water or snacks between meals? It helps in cutting his milk intake. When he's 9+ months he doesnt need more than 20 oz of formula with his solids & at 12+ the max is 20 oz of dairy including milk in food, yoghurt & cheese. xx

I wouldn't worry too much. Tom was still having 5 bottles of 7 - 8 oz, so at least 35oz plus 3 meals at 8 months old. He dropped to 4 bottles at about 9 months then 3 by 12 months and finally at 14 months we got down to 1/2 a bottle 1st thing and a full one at bedtime. So he's now 16 months and still having about 13oz a day of formula plus dairy products.

When he was 9 months old a HV went on and on that I needed to reduce his bottles from 4 to 2 a day. I just ignored her as I believed he was taking what he needed and would drop them when he was ready and he has.

Just got to get him off the last bottle and half at some point in the next year now!

Fin's 6 months and has 3 x 8oz bottles a day. I admit it does sound like much. Perhaps try offering a snack and a drink when a bottle would be due? xx

He has snacks such as yogurt & rice cakes but just cant get him to take nay water at all ive tried with sippy cup & a bottle

Omar wasnt keen on water. What helped is offering him few sips 1st thing in the morning. He started to drink water at around 9-10 months when he started to move around more. You can also add few drops of juice to his water & see how it goes.

He will start dropping feeds when he's ready. Are you still on stage 1? Switching to follow on might also help as it's thicker than stage 1. xx

thanks for your advice i will try him with the water in the morning. I think if the water doesnt work i will switch to the follow on and see if this works.

I thought follow on milk was supposed to be as bit thinner with less calories (and more nutrients) in order to accompany the weaning diet? Don't quote me lol but that's what I gathered when I compared the ingredients.

I now give Ava two bottles of follow on milk (13 oz) and about 3 breastfeeds a day along with 3 meals, she'll be 7 months old next week.

I'd substitute some milk feeds with water (or flavoured baby water incase your LO doesn't like water at first, mine hates it!) At 8 months a baby usually has to have 18-20 oz on average xx
