My baby is 8 weeks & 2 days old born 5 weeks premature. Has gone from 5lb 8 oz down to 5lb 3oz up to 7lb 4oz then to 8lb 13oz now to 10lb 5oz at todays weigh in...(2 weeks between in each weigh in)

Feeding 6-7oz x 5 feeds per day, is this a bit much? Only feed every 3-4 hours. x:wacko:

Liss put on about 1/2lb every week i think it worked out to be. She was having about 5oz every 3-4 hours at that age. I can't quite remember sorry but it was something like that we went up to 6/7/8 at around 3-4 months. BUT if baby is hungry you need to feed them. Did HV recommend hungry baby milk etc?

How is he fitting in with the graphs? Do they have a specific graph for premature babies?

25 oz in 24 hours I would work it at, but if your lo wants more I wouldnt deny her - I'd say she was thriving personally!

i think it sounds like she's doing really well...Ruby was having about 5oz every 2.5 hours in the day at that stage and sleeping through the night. So if she's happy it's fine. I don't htink you can overfeed a baby, my HV said they just bring up any excess...

Oh and I was chatting to a lady when I was out yesterday, who had a premature baby and she said she found she drank A LOT of milk compared to other babies!

My mum says you see a small baby grow, whereas you don't really see a big baby grow as much.
ignore your hv, she's talking crap - for 5 weeks premature and doing so well, you should be made to feel over the moon by your hv as its a credit to you how well she is doing. xx

The weight gain is fine hun dont worry. Ollie has been putting on a pound a week and everyone (HV, GPs and Dr at the hospital) says he is doing great and is healthy so I don't understand where she is coming from. They say 2.5 ozs of feed per lb is the right amount but if your baby is hungry then needs feeding. Try not to worry you are doing a great job, take care :hugs: xx
