So at my first ultrasound the baby had a heartbeat of 114 at just 5 weeks and 6 days. I am super worried because I keep trying to find a heartbeat with my home doppler but all I hear is mine. Am I just being over paranoid? My next ultrasound is oct 11 Ill be 9 weeks and 5 days.

Most dopplers can't find a HB till after 12 weeks most definitely. Some ppl have been very lucky to find it early on, but it is very rare. Don't try to find it again till after 12 weeks, you will just stress yourself out.

Alot of doctors say that hand held dopplers are nothing but a worrisome item. I have one and couldn't find it until I was 12 weeks. You could be too early. Id put it away and try again in a week or two. You don't want to stress your self out. :hugs:

Yea, it's just like the ultrasound... unless you're looking internally for it, you probably won't find it this early ^_^ No worries :)

Thanks ladies I just get worried because I see other ladies finding their babies heartbeats early. I know every pregnancy is different I just wish I could hear it to put my mind at ease. Thank goodness my next ultrasound isn't too far away!!

I heard mine for the first time at 10 weeks, and my doctor said that is VERY rare and that if she hadn't found it herself she wouldn't believe it. Most people don't heard the heart beat until at least 12 weeks and it's usually not very clear and loud until 16.

I found one of mine at about 8 weeks but I have still yet to find the second one (I think I found it once or twice but not for sure). I probably had an easier time finding mine because my uterus is a little bigger than a normal 8 week uterus since its twins. Even once you find the heartbeat its common not to be able to find it every time you look. If you have a home doppler you really have to tell yourself its just for fun and not worry about it otherwise you might want to hide it.

I went to the doctor today and I could barely hear the baby over me. The doctor was shocked she could even pick it up at 11 weeks.

i didnt start hearing baby pproperly until around 14 weeks. 8 weeks is very early which is why doctors and midwife dont try yet. id try again in a week or 2.

Finding the heartbeat so early is pure luck...I found mine at almost 9 weeks but as I said pure luck and then couldn't find it for three days and it was worst than when I couldn't find it at first. Most dopplers clearly state that hb can be found from week 13 onward and even then it's tricky....so don't be paranoid (easier said than done though). The hb frequency was perfect for the pregnancy time you had at the time of the ultrasound...Keep trying, don't get discourage.

I usually find it near (very near) my pubic bone and it takes a while of me being lay down. But if the whole thing is stressing you out it's better to put the doppler away and try it in a few weeks.:hugs:

I had twins in my last pregnancy and could not get a heart beat at 13 weeks, noting until 16 weeks

Please don't panic :) finding it so early is a massive game of chance. there is so many factors that can affect that chance also. Your build for one, uterus position too.

Personally, the first time a midwife checked me was 17 weeks and she couldn't find baby. I got an emergency scan and all was well. My home Doppler, we couldn't find baby until around 23 weeks ish. There's so much going on in there that it drowned out his heartbeat! I am however a bigger girl and my uterus is tilted.

For your own sanity. I would put the Doppler away and give it a try in a few weeks or you will be trying every single day and getting more and more worried and frustrated when yu don't succeed x

Even my ,is wife couldn't find my last baby's heartbeat until I was 17 weeks... She's almost 8 months old now!x

8 weeks is too early unless you know where to look, even then it can hide very easily.
The baby is only 2cm long, so you can imagine how small the heart is!!

Try again after your next u/s you might have better luck then as it will be a little bit bigger.

If you reallly want to try now, look very low, as baby will most likely be behind your pubic bone still xx

i tried at 8 weeks (i had a scan at 7weeks+1 and seen baby with heartbeat)

All i could find was my heartbeat and placenta... I tried to not let it get to me, because more than lightly, baby was probs tucked away in a place i couldnt get too etc...

So lastnight after trying for over an hour i found it!!! Thats the first time ive been able to find it :) It could just be way too early. I thought mine would of been higher up, but found baby right where my pubic bone is and i had to tilt the doppler down over and also laid on my side :)

I found a heart beat at 9 weeks and have checked most days after that for reassurance. Today I can't find it but I am not worried as I reckon he is just hiding.

I seriously don't understand how some ladies find their baby heart beat so early. My doctor sometimes has a hard time finding it with his machine (thousands of dollar machine). I had a doppler last time (not a cheap one) and I always picked up my own heart beat until the third trimester.

Don't be worried if you can't find it with a home doppler, they aren't as high tech or as good as doctors offices have.

I had a scan at 7w+5d and had a heartbeat of 175bpm. I think if you have a scan they will find it easily. You can always pay for a private scan if you're very worried and I'd recommend them completely just to put your mind at rest x
