I hope my story will help someone, and prevent them from making a huge mistake!

I went to an OBGYN on Tuesday at 5w5d, who did a transvaginal ultrasound and informed me that I had a blighted ovum:nope:. I was told to expect cramping and bleeding within the next week. I was also given the option of taking misoprostol to induce abortion or a D&C. I chose to wait a couple of weeks :coffee: (Not really! I was waiting until I got back to the office to scan myself, and start looking for a new doctor). Regardless, I was devastated. I have had two miscarriages in the past....the first, 14 wks....the second, a 7wk blighted ovum. I was like "not again." I walked out of the office, sat in my car, burst into tears, and sat for 2hrs in the parking lot devastated:cry:. My husband was also crushed. We are both in our 30s with no children.

Today (Thursday), I decided to scan myself. I did an abdominal ultrasound, and immediately saw a yolk-sac:happydance:. I measured the gestational sac and the yolk sac. The GS measured 6 wks. The yolk sac was 0.34cm (3.4mm). Normal and normal:thumbup:. I pulled one of the OBs in the room to do a transvaginal ultrasound, and again, looked like a blighted ovum. However, because the yolk sac was clearly seen transabdominally, the doctor was determined to find it. The doctor had to point the probe directly up, which hurt like hell, and then we saw a yolk sac and fetal pole measuring 6wks with a heart beat:happydance:. I was informed that I have a tilted uterus, which can sometimes cause the misdiagnosis of a blighted ovum.

Below are some of the things that I have been thinking:

What if I had taken the prescription for misoprostol and started taking it on Tuesday?

How many women are being misdiagnosed as having blighted ovums when they have a tilted uterus?

I also began to wonder if my blighted ovum, 7yrs ago, was really a blighted ovum.

Yay! Congrats! So very happy that you are pregnant!! Very happy you didn't take that pill or diagnosis! :happydance: So very nice to see a positive story!

Congrats!

It's pretty scary that they will make a BO diagnosis so early on. I had a BO but it wasn't properly confirmed til I was over 9 weeks - I had been having weekly scans since I was 6 weeks. I'm glad that they took their time to make a diagnosis, even though being in limbo for almost 4 weeks was hell.

Have a happy and healthy 9 months x x

Filled up with emotion when i read this .Really pleased that u persisted and didn't give up hope. I hope u have a wonderful healthy 9 months xx :hugs:

woohhoo!! these are such awesome news! thanks for sharing your story!! :) :) happy and healthy 9 months!!

There is a website (search misdiagnosed miscarriage) that has hundreds of stories like yours. It's good your baby is ok.

I waited until 10 weeks to make sure my first m/c was in fact a m/c. They can't all be happy endings, but at least you had the tools to check yourself.

Wow!!! And thank you Jesus! I'm so happy for you!!!

im going through the same situation............how were your pg symptoms?

Awww thank god you could scan yourself and see a yolk sac etc...

With me there was no doubt about it... I should of been 12 weeks and 4 days there did a belly scan and than a vaginal one, nothing could be at all seen and I had a deteriation sac that measured 7 weeks and 5 days :(... Mine was indeed a blighted ovum.

So glad you have a happy ending x

Wow so glad you did not take the pills....PTL....Hope you and your baby have a healthly 9 months!!

im having bouts of nausea all day.......my nipples are so tender.....and my boobs were really sore the last weeks but when i got my news it seems like they are not so sore........im tired as hell

the doctor wants me to abort right now.......says there is little hope
idk what to do but im freaking out!

Mamma, don't listen to him! Give it time, it's far too early to diagnose :hugs:

Thanks for this post, I had an abdo scan on Friday (they refused a vaginal scan and my womb tilts backwards) and we seen gestational sac only, I have another scan next Monday so fingers crossed.
I had a MMC 13 weeks ago, and I'm now 6+2, with tender nipples, waves of nausea, very very tired, and HCG at 5 weeks was 23,180!!!!!
