I'm going to breast feed, but don't particularily wish to use a breast pump. And we have three giant cans of formula that were given to us for free. So I was thinking that I might breast feed for all feedings of the day except one, and during that one feeding, I'll get DH to give him formula. So that way, if we have my brother or dad or gram or someone look after the child for a while, the child should be able to stand getting formula fed for two feedings in one day.

Yes? No?

Lots of people combination feed and it works well. You should wait till breastfeeding is well established say after 4-6 weeks. Bear in mind if you start to give too many bottles LO might start to refuse the breast. This is what happened with me. I do bang on about it quite a lot but it upset me at the time and I didnt have the strength to fight it. One bottle a day should be fine tho.

Combination feeding can work really well but as Sparks says it's defiantely best to wait to get feeding established. That formula is free for a reason!! They know once you start with it you will have to keep buying it! Just because it's free doesnt mean you have to use it - dont forget it keeps for a long time so it will come in handy at some point probably :)

I would wait until bfing is established porperly hun xxx

I change depending on LO and circumstances but he has pretty much had one bottle a day from birth. THis was due to some problems with his latch though that were probably made worse by introducing the bottle so early. I agree with the ladies above, as long as you wait a few weeks you should be fine x Good luck!
