Does anyone know of any good books to read??
I love reading 'true story' books, I was really into reading when I was pregnant but since havent picked one up.
Nothing scary as I live on my own :haha: I find myself in the evenings wondering what to do with myself when Ellie goes to bed at half 7. Anytime I go and look at books I never seem to know what I want and end up leaving with nothing.

So has anyone read a good book that they couldnt put down??

Thanks :hugs:

Mistaken Identity was good. there was a car crash and 2 girls who looked the same were mixed up. 1 lived and 1 didnt, for 5wks they had no idea there was a mix up. VERY touching story.

I read Cry Silent Tears in 1 hour last Saturday.

Was really good but but you need a strong tummy for it.

I just finished the book 'The Ocean Between Us' by Susan Wiggs. It was wonderful I couldn't put it down. Also anything Catherine Anderson. :)

Oh and Lisa Scottoline anything as she is great but recently I read "Look Again" and 'Legal Tender'. Both Fabulous

It's not a true story book but it's called "Little earthquakes"

i have never heard of that. What is it about?

Its about a boy who witnesses his Dad die in a fire and he becomes mute.

He then become a target for abuse by his Mother and his brothers and his Mothers friends.

His is abused in every way imaginable and tbh its a hard read.

But he survived.

Google it.

I'm reading 'the beauty myth' by naomi wolfe at the moment and it's very interesting I'd recomend it to all women!

I've just read the trilogy by Midwife Jennifer Worth - about her time as a student midwife in the 50's around the slummy East End of London. She is so good at keeping you glued to the book, such a wonderful story teller.

Shadows of the workhouse
Call the midwife
Farewell to the east end

i was about to recommend Call the Midwife

also its smutty but a great read its called Call Me Elizabeth by Dawn Annadale

its about how she becomes a prostitute to survive and keep her family afloat and how she came from a great background etc but still became a prostititue

its hard to read in some parts but it really is a great book.

My favourite book that i can never put down, not a true story but its over a long time span so really catches you.

Called a women for all season by julie ellis

This is the blurb
An epic 20th-century saga of family values and artistic ambition, set against the backdrop of the earliest days of Hollywood. In this vintage Julie Ellis novel, a strong woman fights for her family's survival and to keep her own integrity in a fast-changing world. Elisabeth Woolf is born into a rich London family, raised in privileged surroundings by her doting but domineering father. He has definite ideas about how a young Edwardian lady should behave; they do not include higher education, nor attending the theatre. Yet, at seventeen, Elisabeth meets and falls in love with a young actor not of her own faith. Before she realises the full consequences of such a perilous action, she is made an outcast. She flees with her young lover to Melbourne, where he has been offered work. Here Elisabeth discovers her own talent for acting. But before she can establish her career, tragedy intervenes and she must escape again, this time to the USA. Now it seems that nobody wants stage actresses, but in California there is talk of some strange new medium: cinema. From the First World War to the 1950s, Elisabeth and her descendants are at the heart of the emerging entertainment industry.

Thanks for some of the suggestions in this thread, going to read some of them:thumbup:
