I don't think I could cope with 500 calories a day, I would be starving

you can eat up to your TDEE, which is the amount of calories your body needs per day to maintain your current weight. My TDEE is 1760 calories, so five days a week I aim for that.That 5:2 doesn't sound too bad! So can you actually eat what you want on the other days?
