a little help with my dad (no judging please)

Ok so basicly my parents have been split for about 6 months and my dad wants to find out if he can claim, but its not so simple.....

My dad can not read & write,my mum always delt with bills,letters and phonecalls. When they was together they claimed as a couple as my dad was classed as my mums career as shes unable to work.

Hes now temp living with my grandma,but my dad is also unable to work as he has really bad knee and back problems can not do too much or lift too much.

Because of the situation i am trying to sort this out for my dad as its breaking my heart to see him struggle and not knowing what to do....

I am phoning the JC up on monday and explain everything and explain everything about my dad that hes unable to work,can not read n write,has never been on his own before and never delt with this kind of stuff.

Does anyone know if he would be entitled to something?

I honestly don't think being able to read and write will count as a disability as there could be other work he could do which doesn't involve that. So he could look fir work and claim jsa. That said the Jc may well be able to help by putting him on a course and get his skills up making him more employable, which would probably be great for his confidence. I can imagine it being really hard not being literate. The Jc should be able to advise.

what is it you are wanting to claim and what has he been living on for the past 6 months?

i agree with the pp who said about getting on a course, there is help out there for him hun, even if its not through the jobcentre, and it would give him a massive boost to be able to learn these new skills
