Ok so to start off my due date was January 5th, 2015 but like with my first baby, in the last few weeks I developed dangerously high blood pressure (was basically a walking stroke) I was put on the highest dose of labetalol that was clinically safe for a pregnant lady and it wasn't even touching it.
So when I went for my 36 week doc appointment I was told I would need to be monitored every 2 days to make sure things weren't getting out of hand. I was also scheduled for an NST on Sunday December 14th @ 8am to make sure baby was still happy inside. So at 2am that very day I woke from my sleep in a lot of pain. My head was absolutely killing me. I took my blood pressure with my home blood pressure cuff and it came back at 210/110 so I woke my husband up and we got to the hospital for 5am and the doctors seen me right away. I was 36+6 and was deemed far enough along to be induced.
So at 8:38am I had cervidil placed inside and waited for 12 hours or until something happened. I had contractions start within 30 minutes of the placement but after the first 12 hours it had dilated me to a whole cm!! Yay! Not... So they removed the cervidil and let me sleep overnight... Not so easy because I was still contracting like a mother ****** anyhoo the next morning comes December 15th and the docs refreshed from a better rest than I said, let's give another round of cervidil a shot. Super duper I say, so they placed another tab and left me to it. Problem is the cervidil started to overstimulate my uterus and I began having strong coupling and tripling contractions. I was in agony! I was in the tub A LOT because I found so much relief in there. I walked a lot and rested when I could. I ended up getting a shot of morphine (lasts 4 hours) so I could sleep before it got too intense. It made me super high and paranoid feeling but I was able to sleep thank God.
When I woke up the doc had come to check me for progress (36 hours into the induction process) and I was 4cm & fully effaced. Then he says I'm going to send you home tonight... Say what?!?! I was so angry and felt so defeated. His reasoning makes sense to a degree but at the time I was just so crushed. He said " it's been 36 hours and I think you should have a good nights sleep at home and try labouring in familiar settings to you and it might relax you enough for labour to kick in naturally. If labour doesn't start on its own in the next 24 hours come back on Wednesday (Dec 17th) and we can start another induction for you then."
Little did he know I was actually already in labour bit i was sent home anyways unable to walk from the amount of pressure and pain I was having. I had to be wheel chaired out and picked up by my husband and put into our vehicle. He put me to bed after making me a lovely roast beef sandwich and a babybel cheese wheel thingy. I slept as decent as one could with stronger and lengthening contractions. I woke at 8:30am the next morning and by 9am I told my husband I couldn't handle staying home anymore and that I felt it was time to go to the hospital. I couldn't talk through the contractions anymore so I figured it was a good enough indicator to go back in. We arrived at the l&d unit shortly after 10am and were put into an assessment room and it was discovered I was 8cm and my God I was so happy to hear that. They got me a delivery suite and broke my waters. With not even quite 5 minutes of pushing I pushed my baby out! It was the fastest and most intense of my 2 natural deliveries. I had my second baby boy! I cried and kissed him and shouted to everyone in the delivery room that I loved him so much and I couldn't believe I had just pushed out a baby for the second time. I felt so amazing and relieved.
We named our sweet little blue bundle Oliver Cain he was born December 16th, 2014 @ 10:41am at 7lbs 2oz and 19.5 inches long.
It was a long induction process like it was with my first but once my body realized what I was trying to get it to do the actual active labor, transition and pushing stages were happening almost entirely simultaneously.
I was in the hospital for 3 days following the birth because my son was classified as a late preterm baby and needed to be watched. I suffered several 2nd degree tears inside and out but he was so worth it. I would do it again right now for him.
Thanks for reading ladies!!
