hello, first of all i wasn't sure if i should post this bc i'm embarrased about it but then remembered nobody here knows my face and i always get support from the ladies here so here we go...me and hubby been together for 2 yrs at the time of 1yr 3 months we went together to get tested for STDS everything was fine and I also got a pap smear wich came back as normal, now neither of us have been with someone else since the time we started dating I am sure he hasn't cheated on me but last week i got another pap smear bc I changed doctors and on wednesday a nurse called me that my pap smear came back with abnormal cells and possitive for HPV:cry:, god i felt like i hitted my head with a wall of bricks, she said the doctor wants u to call on wednesday and make an appointment n ur probably gonna get a biopsy and she said a really weird long word and i just said uhuh then she said don't worry it is pretty normal i have Hpv but it is under control. now i went straight away to browse on the internet about this and i am scared! first how do i have it if we have been faithfull to each other? will the biopsy and other procedures hurt my chances of conceiving a baby? everybody talks about women getting treatment for it and very often everything turns out fine, but how do men get treated for it? i don't have warts nor my husband so how do they say it is HPV? what if I end up having cevival cancer? sould I stop TTC completely, or should Ijust be NTTP?Ladies any feed back will be very appreiated, please do not read and run it hurts when a psot gets like 40 views nad just 2 responses.:nope:

thank u for reading and responding and so soooorry for the long post:flower:

So at my first mw appointment she did a pap smear I told her I had one a couple months back and that it came up with abnormal cells and positive for hpv, she said not to worry and we will discuss treatment if it came up positive again. so 4 days later I went back for the results and everything was normal no hpv no abnormal I just couldn't believe, she said those kind of things happens sometimes. I am so happy now!!!

I know exactly how you feel! It sounds like we have the same stories.... With the same man for a year and a half, then about a year ago I get a call saying I have hpv.... I did the procedure that they told you about, the one with the long word (i can't remember the name either). It wasn't comfortable, but there really wasn't much pain with it. After that another pap in 6 months and still a few abnormal cells so they did another thing to freeze those (another procedure I don't remember the name of) and this was similar to the first. I have an appt in Nov. To check if the freezing got rid of all of the abnormal cells.

So after sharing all of that, I told my doc that my OH and I were trying and he said that was absolutely fine. I asked if the hpv could cause any proble,s and he said not at all. So I'm staying positive that all of the abnormal cells will be gone in Nov. And maybe by then I'll get a BFP :)

Good luck and keep us posted!!!!

I have a similar story - I had been with DH for almost 3 years and then got a call that from doctor that I had HPV (no abnormal cells though). I know both of us have been faithful (btw we both got tested for everything else around the time we started dating and everything was negative) and the doctor explained that HPV can lie dormant in your body. It could have been from either one of us - neither of us had been with anyone else since about a year prior to when we started dating. The doctor said don't worry about TTC but I'm scared for when I go back in the spring for a follow-up exam and just hoping that it's gone away.

I've done a lot of research and the best thing for it is to eat lots of cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli, cabbage, etc.) There's a compound in them that can make the abnormal cells spontaneously go away. So I've been trying to eat at least one serving of broccoli a day in hopes of preventing abnormal cells from forming and making the HPV go away.

Thank u for responding and u eased my mind saying I can still TTC. I hope ur next pap comes back as normal and u get ur BFP. when is ur appointment? and how did ur OH got treated for it? i'm sorry for asking so many questions

greenorchid thanks even tough i don't like broccoli and all that good stuff I'll do my best to eat them, yuck! I wish u good luck on getting a normal pa on spring. i feel pretty good knowing there's people I canr ealte to about this problem :/

Hey Ladies.

Abnormal paps are very normal. i've had a lot of them, i'm followed very regularily (every 6 - 9 months). The procedure you're talking about is a colposcopy (biopsy of the cervix), i've had a few over the last 5 yrs. And just because you have abnormal cells doesn't mean that you have cervical cancer, not at all actually. Also my doc said that 80% of adults have hpv and that it can lie dormant and then re-appear, which would explain why this didn't show up earlier. i've had a lot of abnormal paps over the last 5 yrs, i've asked if i should be tested for hpv, and she said there's no point. ALso i've had a child in the last 5 yrs so bottom line i would say that there is nothing to worry about!! keep ttc and keep following up on the paps!! i usually have to get 3 normal ones in a row then i get to go back to my family doctor for annual paps.

Take care.

Kim

thanks kim I need to do more research in all these

Don't feel bad about asking questions - it's scary. There's no test for men nor any way to treat it in men. The type of HPV that causes abnormal pap and cancer is not the same type that causes warts. Since HPV is a virus, there's no medicine to get rid of it - your immune system has to fight it off. They can only treat the abnormal cells caused by the virus.

Is the word the nurse said "colposcopy"? The nurse at my clinic explained that they basically use some kind of special magnifying glass to look for abnormal cells on your cervix, and can biopsy them if needed. Did you mention to the nurse that you're TTC? You might want to ask about it when you call back to make the appt, but I promise you'll be fine. :hugs:

I got my positive HPV result in May so I have to wait until next April to go back for my next pap. If the HPV test is still positive I will also have to have a colposcopy even if there are no abnormal cells. I hope all the broccoli I'm eating is doing the trick!

I just did cochy115:flower:
thank us o much greenorchid i didn't know all that o.O see I stiil need to do more research on it, I'm so glad there aredifferent types I guess lol those google images with the warts can frick anybody out
momof3boyss so sweet of u thanks!

Btw cervical cancer is one of the slower growing cancers and generally takes years to develop, and this is AFTER you have abnormal cells develop. Kim is right - as long as you get your pap every year - you'll be totally fine.

I will keep writing on this thread after I go to my appointment and talk to my doctor, see what he says and what proceduress I get done

It would be a colposcopy and they will most likely take some effected areas to biopsy to see how deep the cells go, I have had this done, i had a neg pap at 18 and at 20 i had a CIN II pap that came back as CIN III after a leep procedure (Part of my cervix cut out) on my cervix so dont fully trust that you have years to wait. I have had one pap test with abnormal cells since and it cleared up on its own.
They could suggest you not get pregnant before treatment as the cells can grow faster during pregnancy. But it depends on what level your cells are at.
Its nothing to worry about tho, my Gyn says that my cervix apears normal and you wouldnt even know i had the leep procedure done.
its now nearly 7 years later and my paps have been all clear for 5

thanks itsy bitsy, do u know if the leep procedure u had done will hurt ur chances of conceiving?

You are not alone!

After you get the results of your biopsy you will know how severe the hpv is. They will either tell you to let your body try to fight it off on its own, or will tell you your options for removing the cells. If your option is to fight it off on your own and you are unable to, you will most likely end up getting treatment anyway if the hpv is still there even if it didn't progress into more dangerous territory.

My body didn't fight it off so I had a LEEP procedure done (where a part of your cervix is shaved off where the abnormal cells are). I asked my doctor many questions, as I am TTC! He told me I could go back to TTC as soon as I healed (anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks) and in fact for some reason women are more likely to become pregnant 1 or 2 cycles after the procedure (sadly that didn't happen in my case). Having this procedure done won't cause any problems getting pregnant - in fact it if anything it will help because your body will be healthier! The only thing to be worried about is if a large portion of your cervix is taken off, you will have issues carrying full term. Don't worry, cases like that are severe and since you are taking care of this quickly I am sure if you need to have the procedure the portion will be very minimal! It turns out I had my hpv for years and still only a portion of half my pinky nail was taken off!

As far as what men can do, well, NOTHING! Men are ONLY carriers of the virus, so they have no treatment! That is why it affects such a large number of sexually active people. Don't worry, though. As soon as the strain(s) you have are treated, you cannot catch that same strain. So as long as you are treated and you and your partner continue to stay faithful, you won't keep swapping the hpv back and forth.

Good luck! :hugs:

Hi ladies I did some research on this hope it helps;

The HPV virus is also found in the mouth and throat and can be passed by oral sex! oral and then on to kissing for example  HPV loves mucus! so will love anywhere thats mucusy, mouth, cervix, penis, back passage. so it dosen't mean anyone has been unfaithfully it could simply be passed back and forth.

Studies have found that the leading cause of throat and mouth cancers is HPV and not smoking, as first thought. **** DOES NOT MEAN THAT EVERYONE WILL DEVELOPE THROAT CANCER****** So no need to panic. I hope this helps, theres a lot of info now availble, :hugs: Ps my SIL had abnormal smear results and had lazer treatment and went onto concieve. :hugs::hugs:

Don't worry too much, I've had every abnormal cell under the sun and a cyst on my left ovary. I had colposcopy for the cells and the cyst went away on its own. My daughter is 10 month old and was conceived on the first try,so don't worry too much like I did. Seriously I freaked myself out for years and swore I won't be able to get pregnant.

girls tank u so much, I didn't know this was so common. I was so embarrased to post this since it is about an STD and felt nervous about being judge but I am so glad that u have comforted me and now I feel more relaxed and think everything is gonna be fine

I just got an abnormal pap for the first time. HPV - that causes cervical cancer. Currently Im ttc for the first time. My doctor said that they are just going to keep a close eye on me. and that no procedure is to be done...just annual paps for sure.
Has anyone had a prob ttc with hpv....kind of scared about it.
