I just got a urgent call from my doc. My pap came back severely abnormal. They said the medical term but I was in such a shock that I didn't catch what it was. She said the cells on my cervix are severely abnormal and I am high risk pregnancy now. She didn't give me any other info, just that they can't see me there anymore and a specialist will be calling me to set up an appt. I am totally confused and freaked out and scared right now. Does anyone have any experience this this? Any info would help thank you...

Oh no! That sounds really frightening! I hope you're okay. I'm sorry, I have no advice, but I didn't want to read and run. I really hope everything turns out okay!

Thank you squirrel. I haven't seen any ladies on here post about it so I really have no idea what it means, nor what it means to be high risk pregnancy. That alone scares the shit out of me

I'm not site that's all I can find when I google too but I don't remember her saying that at all. I would remember that term , she called it something else and if I saw the words I would know I just can't remember what she said. I could call back and ask

oh no... I'm so so sorry! I have no clue what that means... why wouldn't they tell you :( ill be sending prayers you're way!

All I know is that she was taking really slow and clear like people do when something is wrong. And high risk keeps echoing through my head

Idk why she wouldn't explain further. She said that the specialist will explain but I have to wait for them to call.

I would call back so you can get some specific responses from some ladies on here. It sounds scary but most abnormal cervical cell issues can be monitored during pregnancy. Let us know what she says and I'd even go as far as to ask what type of doctor you are being referred to.

I had a severely abnormal smear back in 2012. I had cin III pre cancerous cells. ( cin I being the the least amount of abnormal cells ). I had leetz treatment, they laser off the abnormal cells and send a biopsy away for further investigation. I remember being really scared I had cancer but the doctor at the time told me that smears are prevention. Even with the most abnormal cells things can take many many years to develop into anything nasty. Try not to worry. I really made myself ill worrying!
I was not pregnant at the time. I live in the UK and here they do not do smears while pregnant, you have one 3 months after delivery.
I have read about ladies having treatment in America while pregnant and I understand you wait until you are well into pregnancy.
Sorry to hear you are dealing with this but do try not to panic! The cells are highly unlikely to develop quickly x

I have a high risk pregnancy, high BP, last LO was under 5lbs and over 3 weeks early (so high chance of not getting to full term) to me all them are small issues but im classed as high risk so don't worry hunny being classed as high risk isn't always bad it means you will get the extra care you need and extra scans and doesn't automatically mean something's wrong

Try not too worry too much. I know it's hard. Most likely its a severe dysplagia. But there are also so many different grades as well before it reaches malignant. Usually a colposcopy is done so that they can biposy some of the tissue. There is a chance it could be downgraded after biopsy or higher graded. After biopsy they offer other options for you where they take that chunk of bad tissue out or burn it out (called a LEEP or cone). The chances it is cancer is NOT common as it takes several years for those types of cells to turn into cancereous. in pregnancy I believe they monitor you until after you have the baby. You could also get a second opinion. I had a friend whos cells turned back normal eventually after she delivered. She opted to monitor. BTW I am a nurse. hope this helps : ) Also HPV is usually the culprit. The good news is that about 70% of women who test positive for HPV at routine paps CLEAR it (meaning test negative at recheck) in a year. 90% clear it within 2 years. The body has a way of dealing with it.

Thank you so much girls. It sounds like what you are taking about is the same as what they told me. I called and got the medical term... High grade squamous intraepithelial lesion with moderate dysplasia

My guess is that they will just monitor you till you have the baby. Good luck!

Thanks so much girls you have all put my mind to ease a little more. All I can do is wait to talk to my new doctor. I found out that the OB I was seeing is a GP that does OB on the side up to 28 weeks and also does not do high risk pregnancy. So I am going to see a OBGYN that works with high risk. I guess I an just really confused why this makes me high risk, what is the correlation between this and the baby? I understand now that what this means is I have a higher chance of cervical cancer (abnormal pap vs severely abnormal ) but I don't understand why this makes me high risk. Should I be worried for my baby or am I worrying for nothing? Idk I just need to wait and talk to my new OB.
