abnormal semen analysis!!! any advice please ??

Hi there,
Didn't want to read your post without offering any help. I'm wondering where you had the test carried out? When my hub has his done we thought it best to have it explained by our Fertility specialist. Your Doctor could also explain the results and advise you best. In most cases I think they like to analyse a second sample to compare the two. Sorry I can't offer anymore advise than that

I would say that overall count is a bit low and abnormal forms high but agree with jojo, you need to have a 2nd sample done in a few weeks. Lots of things can affect sperm, including being ill, heavy drinking or smoking. My dh had one test (which wasn't great) he then went for a 2nd having been away snowboarding for a week and it was AWFUL!!!! Drinking def makes a big difference, we found.
Also like jojo said, I've found gp's are crap at these results. You really need a specialist to do the test and explain it all to you.

hi my dh had a sperm sample done in june 09.....we were told all was fine. saw fs at end of aug 09 & she informed us that those results were infact very bad!!! he was heartbroken to say the least...couldnt talk to me for a day as he felt a failure. the fs suggessted vitamins which he started taking immediately ( fertile aid for men).....he also stopped having baths & had showers instead, & started exercising & re-peated his sperm test end of sept....the results were good!! better count & motility xx

We also had a bad first experience - only 1 million total count. However, although we are now about to start IVF, hubby's count and motility/morphology have all improved dramatically.
There are some good books around at the moment to do with improving your fertility etc - might be worth having a read up and also getting him some good vits? My hubby takes wellman/vitc/maca - nothing too pricey. The vits and lifestyle changes have made a huge difference.
Sperm mature every 70-90 days so make some good changes now and get another SA done in 3 months - here's hoping to a good result
