Hi all.

Well, we had our first scan yesterday and were advised the NT measurement was 3.5mm - an possible indication if chromosomal problems.

We have decided to have the CVS sampling (sample of the placenta) which will take place tomorrow. I'm terrified.

I've been avoiding this forum all day but feel I need to post to see if any other ladies have had abnormalities on their scans, or if anyone has had the CVS or Amnio which is similar.

We are devastated. Please pray/think of us xx

:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs: I have never had the CVS, but I just wanted you to know others have had these measurements and all has been ok. I know you are terrified I would be also, but the measurements aren't really to bad, i have seen higher and all turned out ok. I wish you all the best and sending much love XOXOXOXO:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Just want to say hope everything is ok with your cvs. I had an abnormality picked up at my 20 week scan with my last baby (nothing to do with NT measurement but rather that my baby was missing both kidneys) so understand how scary it is. Fingers crossed your baby is just fine xx

Hi just wanted to say good luck. Don't lose hope I've seen so many people have worrying u/s and it turns out ok. Focus on staying calm and positive even though its scary. I too have heard of worse nt measurements. I've had a cvs. They will prob do a scan again before then under a scan they do the cvs very quickly. There will be various people attending eg, couple nurses, scanner, dr....and can be daunting but its all so that you get the best care. Try and close your eyes and zone out. It's not painful at all so don't worry about that. I know after mine I thought I could do that again if I had to. As it turns out I will probably have to. I am thinking of you Emma, I know how you feel. Don't give up though. All could very well be ok. Stay positive!! X

Hi tishty thank for your post. Why do you think you may need another test? I thought it was pretty conclusive?

I'm on my way home from the hospital now, you were right, it's not that bad - just uncomfortable x

:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs: Hope and praying you get wonderful results, how long did they say for the results? Please update when you get them. Good Luck :hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

I had a cvs due to scan results. NT was fine for my LO but I had a very low PappA resulting in a 1:29 chance of downs. That was a Friday so rang my OB straight away and booked for CVS the following Tuesday. Spent the weekend crying and just a mess. then the following week waiting for results was the same. All came back good - no probs at all. Please stay positive and do not do what I did - worked myself up so much (which I know is easier said than done). Try to stay positive, so many ppl have cvs and it all comes back fine and I will be thinking of you. xx

Thanks leesy, it's good to know there are people who have been through this. My bloods weren't available today so I don't know my risk levels yet. The prof did say the umbilical cord only has one artery when their should be two but this shouldn't affect chromosomal results.

It's just something else to worry me. X

Hi Emma

Rest up now it's pretty emotionally draining eh! Yes there's always something else to worry you and so so often it turns out to be nothing at all. You're right cvs is conclusive I just mean I might have to have one for this pregnancy. Im only 6 weeks but historically there are reasons that make me higher risk. Not letting it get me down yet though. Hopefully you'll get your initial results in the next day or so, all will be good and you can relax a bit more. Yes the single artery cord is a worry but it's neednt be from what iv read it happens they'll keep an eye on it but baby should be fine, good luck xx

I've had a call from the hospital to say their isn't enough cells in the sample to do the quick screening, I have to wait 10-14 days now for full chromosomal tests.

That's a long time x

Im so sorry to hear of this worrying time you are having. Back in august I got told I had a nuchal measurement of 10.6 mm, it was one of the biggest they had seen. I was told there was no hope, I had a holiday overseas planned the very next day. We went trying to take our mind off it. Nothing could take my mind off it. It was the worst time of my life. I had to wait for 4 weeks before I could have an amnio at 16 weeks when I got home. The day I had my amnio booked, the scan before told us baby had passed away. The post mortem results came back that she had Edwards syndrome Ts18. At mu combined screening that was the one that came back with the lowest odds of 1:1200. It has been a complete nightmare. Our nuchal measurement was pretty conclusive, We knew there was no hope. Your wee bubba has every chance of being ok, There is still hope xxx I hope you dont have to wait too long xxx

Thanks max, I'm sorry to read your news, it must be devastating. I appreciate your post though x

Yes it is...ok 10-14 you can do this. Keep strong and stay positive. Sending you calming thoughts and a big. :hugs:

Xx

I know exactly how you are feeling. On my scan it was between 4.2 and 5. I had a CVS which wasnt bad at all. They tested for the 3 most common abnormalites first. The test came out negative. They are now busy testing for more. I have so far waited 2 weeks to get the result. I am thinking of you and are hoping everything is well!! Be strong!

Hi, we are currently not pregnant but going to try this year, but we know we will have CVS due to genetic problems. I'm glad that I read this to know its not a bad procedure but I'm so sorry your results are going to take a while to come back! That must be awful, this was one of my questions when coming on here as that worries me. I hope your results come back ok and they surprise you and come back quicker xxx

I went through this too - baby had a NT measurement of 3.5mm and combined blood results gave us a 1:11 chance of baby having Down syndrome. We attempted the cvs but the placenta was on the back wall of the uterus and there was no safe way to take the sample. I had a 4 week wait for an amnio. Amnio results came back negative with no abnormalities detected.

I'm currently 40+4 and getting very excited about meeting our baby anyday now :)

Good luck huni, I'm thinking of you!

Hi there, the results take 3-4 days for the screening of downs and two or three other common chromosomal problems but there wasn't enough cells for me to have that. I have got to wait 10-14 days for the full screening. Hopefully, you should get yours in the 3-4 days.

The procedure isn't painful, just weird and leaves you feeling abit tender x

Hi Emma, how is it going for you? Our CVS came back normal. We had a us today and a lot of the soft markers had been resolved. The neck was still a bit thick though. It was 4.2 at one place which is good but 7mm at another. That is 1 mm too much. They also found liquid around the kidneys. We are seing a specialist on tuesday. They said it could be nothing or something with the kidney or a very rare syndrom. How do you other cope withouth knowing?
