Hi there I am Kat and I am 19+4 with baby girl.
Had level 2 scan yesterday and baby looked great. She has always measured one week behind, and so we just assumed I ovulated later in cycle and changed due date accordingly.
The doctor mentioned that the only thing that "stands out" to him, in US, is the "abnormally thick placenta". It looks like a mountain rather then a pancake. He mentioned that this could have an effect on the growth of the baby. So now I have to have another scan in 6 weeks.
I am worried because I have read so much about IUGR and that abnormal placentas can deliver less oxygen and nutrients to baby. Baby now measures 19 weeks. I know it is only a difference of 3 days, but I feel like since she has always measured exactly what she should be for new due date, that at some point we lost 3 days worth of growth.
It feels like 6 weeks is a long time to wait for a recheck because baby usually does a lot of growing at this time. What if in the six week wait, she isn't getting enough oxygen/nutrients? They didn't even order bloodwork. I called again today to question it and they basically told me not to worry because there is nothing they could do anyway. But did say that they se this often, and most of the time it isn't serious.
I am just wondering if anyone has experience with this and what can be, or was done to ensure the health of the baby? Any info greatly appreciated, and thank yo in advance.
