So being dumb, I thought all tylenol products were safe for preggo ladies and I took 1 dose of Tylenol Severe Allergy yesterday with out knowing it was unsafe. I am now worried and paranoid. I bought some sudaphed pe this morning to substitute the other. You don't think I could have hurt my baby do you?

Back in the day, people used to smoke, drink, and take whatever they wanted before all the warnings out there. Although it is not recommended to take it, I think you should be fine. Just stay away from it from now on. Its better to not take anything if you dont absolutely have too...just tough it out for now if you can.

I haven't taken anything today at all because Im super nervous about takign anything now.

Don't worry, just one dose isn't going to do any harm. I'd just check the Sudafed too though, as they usually have the same active ingredients as the Tylenol Cold/Sinus does, so you might end up just taking the exact same thing again. Both pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine should generally be avoided unless your doctor has advised you otherwise. However, a nasal spray or neti pot should work great without all the added chemicals.

I bought a neti pot and used that last night. It was amazing and helped so much! My doctor has said I can take only the PE version of sudaphed. So I think Im safe but I still dont want to take it. :(

Just check the ingredients and the warnings on the packaging. Sometimes doctors don't always know, but if that all checks out, don't worry about it too much. But yes, the neti pot is awesome. I have rarely used anything else for years now.

I highly doubt one dose is going to cause any harm.
I'm also a neti pot fan.

What are the active ingredients in the Tylenol Severe Allergy?

My doctor told me it's ok to take psuedoephedrine once you're out of the first trimester. She didn't say anything about phenylephrine, though.

In any case, it's unlikely that one dose would cause harm. :hugs:

Acetaminophen 325 mg in each caplet

Guaifenesin 200 mg in each caplet

Phenylephrine HCl 5 mg in each caplet

Guaifenesin is fine, my doctor said I can take that. Phenylephrine is something that I'm finding conflicting info about on Google- some sites say it's ok in the second tri, some say it shouldn't be taken because it can affect blood flow to the placenta. However, I'm certain that one dose wouldn't hurt your baby. Might want to talk to your doctor to see if they think phenylephrine is safe for you to take, or if you'd be better off with pseudoephedrine.

I feel your pain on the allergies/cold, though...I came down with the flu yesterday :(

Just stay away from decongestants... they constrict blood flow and restrict blood to the baby. One instance won't hurt. All of the studies show that the only way all these no-nos (ie drinking, meds, food we're not supposed to eat, hair dye, etc) we're not supposed to have are only dangerous in regular excessive quantities of use. One time or here and there won't hurt you.
