I keep reading accuptunture helps fertility but does anyone how its supposed to make a difference?

I dont really see how sticking needles in you helps

Just curious, I would never do it, I hate needles

I did acupunture throughout my IVF and will continue doing it a bit longer. I just figured it couldn't hurt. My clinic actually suggests it as well. It was awesome! I enjoy it thoroughly. It is so relaxing and I promise if you pinch yourself, that hurts worse! I don't know if it helped get me pregnant or not but I know that it helped keep me more relaxed and that in itself was worth it to me.

 - i like the fact that you're asking but would never do it!!

i think the whole alternative medicine thing is more to do with bringing your body into alignment and they are able to pin-point (pardon the pun) target areas to help certain areas of your body/ health etc

i quite fancy the idea of reflexology..if i could get over someone touching my feet - i'm so ticklish! ;)

Someone recommended this to me and I was like no way I can't have needles stuck into me! Would love to know how it helps or if its a relaxing tool

I get so relaxed. I almost always have to take a nap when I get home.

Would other methods of relaxation work?

I'm glad you asked because I was thinking the same thing. It's supposed to help with long cycles, but I'm too scared to try it!

I've had 5 sessions now and I LOVE it, my accupuncturist made me feel really at ease right from word go, not only do I get the accupuncture but he is also reallly easy to talk to, knows alot about dietry stuff to help with my pcos, and throws in other bits and pieces to think about as well. I've noticed a massive difference already in how I'm feeling and how my body reacts to different things.
It's also very relaxing, doens't hurt, and its really not like what you imagine when you think of 'needles'. the ones he uses are sooo thin, they are almost just like stiff thread!! That's how fine they are, they're not sharp or stingy and shouldn't ever be, it's more 'crampy' or 'achey'. I really would recommend it.
Just make sure you get someone who is experienced in fertility accupuncture as well though as there are some points that should/shouldn't be used depending on where in your cycle you are.

I'm doing acupuncture before my next IVF cycle too. I've been going for the last two months now, once a week. And I agree with the others who have done it - I Love it. It is incredibly relaxing. How does it help fertility? My Dr. told me:

- it helps sensitize the body to the medications (in my case IVF meds)
-reduces stress hormones
-promotes blood circulation to the uterus and ovaries (this helps improve egg quality and follicle growth)

I've already noticed a difference. For the last two cycles I've had NO ovulation pain. None. In fact, I didn't think I ovulated (not doing OPK's while waiting for my next ivf) and went in for blood tests. I did ovulate. And my bbt confirmed this. When I was in my 20's I didn't have ovulation pain. It started in my early 30's. My doctors all told me it was normal and not to worry about it. And that not much could be done about it. But it is gone. And this is since the acupuncture.

The first cycle it happened I thought it might be a left over reaction from my failed IVF cycle. But this month again... no pain. And the only thing I've done different is acupuncture. So... maybe just a coincidence but I'm thinking not.

Anyway, I highly recommend giving it a go if you are inclined. It does not hurt at all. But do make sure you see someone who specializes in fertility. I think that makes all the difference.

Good luck!

this was first on my list to do this year, but I lost my job! I swear there are so many success storys with people who have tried it! I really want to as it will help with my PCOS but i cant afford it! :sad1:

I would recommend it!!

It helps you relax and also helps with blood flow. More blood flowing easier means more blood and oxygen to the baby-maker! Studies are showing about a 50% increase in the success rate. Still not 100%, but nothing shows it to be harmful. I did it. I'm scared to death of needles, but the fear of never being a mother was the stronger fear.

I was experiencing a lot of spotting during one of my cycles and the acupuncturist did a point.....the spotting was gone. I was a skeptic until that happened. Now, I'm convinced.

I started a course of acupuncture 2 weeks ago to help with IVF ( egg collection was yesterday). I love it, its not painfull at all. My thoughts were, whats a few more needles on top of all my IVF injections. The acupuncturist as so nice and helpfull, I has given a lot of pre-egg collection advise- eat more protein, drink plenty of water and keep your adbomen warm. I have a cold just now and have been very congested so she did a few extra acupuncture points to clear my airways, so I would have a chance shifing this cold before my anaestheic. It did help and I slept all night without coughing following treatment.
I say to anyone give it a try

They say it's good for relaxation, if nothing else, which is good in itself. Accupuncture, itself, won't get you pregnant, but it might put you in the correct physical 'place' in order for it to happen.

Hi

I thoroughly recommend acupuncture - back in 2003 and 2004 I only had 2 periods each year in 2005 i started acupuncture and chinese herbs and conceived in jan 06 so I'm a convert.

I'm not a huge fan of needles either but it only hurts a tiny little bit and the pins are very fine.

I've got pcos am currently ttc no 2 on clomid now up to 100mg and have a follicular scan on monday - have been on 25 and 50mg and nothing happening.....but also going for acupuncture too.

Hope this story helps.

I would also recommend it. I've been having it for about 3 months. My cycles were getting longer and longer but I now have regular cycles. As everyone else says, it also very relaxing and not really painful at all.

I'm on session 5 of accupuncture..had PCOS diagnosed 10 years ago when I was 14. DH sperm count ok..just me with PCOS that is causing us difficulty as not ovulating. After session 2 of accupuncture I ovulated - yippee!!! I also concieved but had chem pg - boo hoo! I'll try anything but would deffo recommend accupunture. PS I hate needles but this does not hurt and quite relaxing. x

I'm combining acupuncture with traditional Chinese medicine. Here's what my doctor told me.....
Infertility is a SYMPTOM of imbalances within our body. These may be blood imbalances or organ imbalances. These imbalances show themselves in things like.....irregular cycles, poor ovulation, miscarriage, periods that are too heavy, too light, contain clots, to name but a few.
Through diagnosis, a doctor practicing TCM is able to identify our imbalances. Acupuncture and traditional chinese herbal decoctions rebalance our bodies.
It works. It really does.

I am new to these blogs. I just had to cancel my ivf cycle and lost my cycle buddy (she got pregnant) so I need other areas of support.
Anyway, I did acupuncture during the IVF cycle. I did it 5 times. It hurts sometimes, but not bad. I don't think I will do it again next cycle, but I always change my mind about everything.
I also love the yoga pregnancy tapes. I have 1 from 'pulling down the moon' that I love. I do it every morning - it is actually just regular yoga with a few fertility moves.
Do other people love acupuncture or think it helps?
