Just wondering from mums who already have children, did you find that if your baby was very active/very calm during the pregnancy it was a good indicator of how active he would be once born? My friend has three children and said this correlates well with her three.

This is my first baby so I don't really have anything to compare, but it seems that my boy is very active! Basically if I am not up walking around, he is moving. They say that they are supposed to sleep 12-14 hours per day but I don't know how he does this, he seems to be moving around 85% of the time! He is already keeping my up at night because he seems to have these all night dance parties in there. When I wake up in the middle of the night, he is up and moving around, first thing in the morning he is kicking me. It is just a distraction right now and I enjoy feeling him but I am sure that as he gets bigger it will be less pleasant! Am I in for a very high activity little boy?

It didn't with mine, she was constantly kicking me and wriggling but now isn't what I'd call an overly active toddler, mentally and verbally she doesn't stop but that's a different story ;-)x

My Son barely kicked and slept 90% of the time, he literally does not stop as a 4yrs old, and was off and walking at 10 months, so deffo not true for me!

My DD was such an active baby during pregnancy and while she's got plenty of beans her, she's also very laid back and has a great attention span IMO. She'll happily sit and read or do puzzles for ages, and she sat and watch the whole of the first Harry Potter film with me the other day (she doesnt normally watch tv though so it was a treat). So I'd say not true for us. Yet!

My baby constantly moved inside. She constantly moved when born. She was a 'high needs' baby as per dr sears labelling and as a consequence she did not gain weight very easily. She barely slept. First year was very hard work and i never slept more than 2 hours in any block and a cumulitive total of 5 hrs a night was a good night. When we were finally discharged from weigh ins at 5.5 months, when LO was crawling, the HV stated 'I Don't know why we were so concerned. She's never been lethargic or 'unhappy' she just never stops so clearly burns it all off.' She hit all her milestones early, sitting unaided at 4 months and running by 9 months. She doesn't need much sleep. She was super active inside and sonographer commented on he being such a pickle.

I would highly suggest reading up on high needs babies. I think it better you be prepared if you have an active one inside. I assumed we'd have the 'typical baby' that just slept and ate and was quiet but we had one you could never put down, cried a lot and rarely slept. Our friends delayed having children once they met ours as they said they just wouldn't handle it.

It was opposite for me. My dd wasn't very active at all but now that she's here, she is go go go. She's been walking since 8 1/2 months and hasn't slowed down since!!

Mine were. My DD was pretty average in utero, and pretty average outside, but my DS was constantly kicking me, and even now at 11 months old, he LOVES to kick his legs! I have to sit back aways when I change his diaper, because I've gotten bruises on my shins from his kicking!

Nope, not for me.

My daughter was the laziest baby in utero. I failed all the kick-counting and eventually just didn't bother.

She's almost 2 and she's always been a crazy child. She's full of SO much energy.

I can't wait to feel how this baby is going to be.

My son wasn't much of a mover in the womb but he won't sit still now. He was an early walker & I swear has ants in his pants. Even when he's sat concentrating he fidgets!

It's a bit too early to be sure which way this one is going, so far I'd say he's about the same so I may be in for 2 live wires!!

my little girl was hardly moving at all throughout the whole pregnancy but when she was born she was so alert and very active a non sleeping baby!! this time our little man is a mover so im hoping its gonna be a sleepy head and less active than his sister.

Babies move a lot while their asleep so hard to say when baby active if awake or asleep.

My second was very active compared to myself. My second now is very active compared to my first.

Not activity wise - but DD constantly had hiccups in the womb and that has continued on the outside!! Probably related to all her allergies (Makes me feel a bit guilty about all the ice cream I was consuming) xx

No I don't think it did with DS1. He was a really active, wriggly baby but since he was born he's been the most laid-back, calm, gentle little guy you could imagine. He's now 4 and is still the most eady-going 4 year old I've ever met. Don't get me wrong, he's got bundles of energy and could run/jump/climb all day long but he's not 'wild'. Hoping number 2 is just like him!

My son moved non stop. I actually went in for TOO many movements lol. and he didn't sleep well the first 6 weeks and he has always been a huge fidget and was very quick to roll, crawl and walk. Now he's 19 months he is constantly on the go and very hyper.

This one is the same so I think I'm going to have my hands full!

My mum said I was a chill baby in the womb and a chill baby when I was born and as a child.

Dd was very chilled in utero and was a chilled baby too, in no hurry to get on the move at all! Shes a very chatty and active toddler though ;) this one is also quite chilled, though when she does move its feels different to how I remember it with her sister. More wriggly kinda!

Totally true for me! DD1 was the squirmiest baby ever, and just like that when inside me. She kicked like crazy inside and out, and as soon as she could roll she could get around the whole room.
DD2 moved "normally" but I was constantly worried, as it was so much less than DD1. She was still active but not nearly so squirmy.

my daughter was . Second preg. She was an awkward preg due bein wriggler i was so uncomfy as she was on nerves. An shes now runnin an dancing 16.5 month old. Hit all her milestones spot on if not early.

LOL- about the supposed to sleep... I SWEAR I just thought this last week. My baby moves all day long with the exception of maybe 8 hrs a day. he's already moving when my alarm goes off at 5:27 am. Moving on my way to work moving at work..etc its crazy - but yes I do think it correlates with how your baby will be after born. I have had 5 singleton and 1 twin pregnancy. All of them now are how they were in utero. I know I'm going to have a handful with this one.
