Hi Everyone,

I am getting ready to start my first IVF cycle. I am wondering what physical restrictions were recommended by other ladies' doctors? I am worried I may have to quit my job to undergo IVF and would like your advise.

I am a very active person and in excellent physical condition. I am an outdoor educator and part of my job is leading kayak tours. This involves loading and unloading a kayak trailer, each kayak weighing 60 pounds (27 kg). Usually I have a co-worker along who helps me unload the kayaks, and then I drag the kayaks down to the water. We usually paddle for about 4 hours.

I discussed this with my doctor today. He said that for 1-3 months I will be limited to lifting no more than 30 lbs. His recommendations were that I could help unload the kayak trailer (the heaviest part!) but not drag the kayaks to the water (easy... I can drag two at a time). He also said it was okay to paddle, which involves a lot of core muscle workout and twisting. After his confusing recommendations, I think my doc has never been kayaking. :haha:

I intend to talk to my boss and see if they can work with me but I don't know if they will be able to. What are your thoughts or experiences?

Thanks!

Hi! I'm in my 2nd round of IVF. It does seem that your doctor has no idea what kayaking is, lol. I think that once you start stimming that you aren't gonna feel like doing all that heavy lifting, dragging, etc. Seems like a bit much. But again, your in great shape from doing that line of work. It may not be as hard for you. Are you planning to take any time off around retrieval and transfer? I don't think heavy lifting of any sort, even if it's 30lbs is good around retrieval and transfer. Just my honest opinion. Good Luck to you! Hope it works and you get your BFP! :dust: to you!
