Hello,

This has been bugging me so I have to ask.

I am starting my maternity leave in October & they have advertised my job to get someone in to cover.

In the ad it says;
" Maternity cover for 6 months minumum"

But then on the Duration it says permanent ? Are they allowed to advertise it as that ?

I've made it crystal clear from day one I'd be taking 6 months off and then returning.

It may seem like nothing but it hacked me off !

Thanks
x

I'd be hacked off too. My hormones are making me protective of my job & I don't want someone to do it whilst I'm off!

I'd ask your manager. Along the lines of "who made a typo in the advert?". But I wouldn't think they can say Perm when it's just Mat Cover.

Hope you get it sorted. X

6 months & permanent are 2 different things and i would quiery this.
they may intend to keep on the additional staff member in another role afterwards. they have to hold your post or simular for you for when you return.

I did mention it to her, she was going through the cv's this afternoon & said Hmmm all of them say I would like to apply for " *** *****" none of them say temporary / maternity cover.

I said no they wont because the job was advertised as permanent.

She just ignored me and carried on talking !

If it says on the job description covering maternity leave for 6 months and then the duration is permanent Maybe it means they would be doing your job for a minimum of 6 months but then moved along else where in the company and it would be permanent. Thats just my opinion!

I was sure I read something (possibly advice to employers from Business Link) that the advert must state Temporary. I'm sure there's probably a way around it though.

ACAS should be able to tell you easily enough. Although - word of warning, I had someone there misunderstand me/the situation and tell me something which *almost* got me in hot water... so worth being *explicitly clear* and triple checking. 08457 47 47 47

It could have also been a defualt in there that didn't get changed!
