Hi guys i breast feed but plan to just top up once a night on ff so that me and my husband can get some rest through the night.

Can i make aptimal up and pop it in the fridge for later or is it the whole wait 30 mins then make the bottle etc>?

If i can pop in the fridge do i put the aptimal in at boiling point or wait the 30 mins like usual, make the bottle up and then pop in the fridge?

Thanks.
xx

I always make the bottles up in advanced and put in the fridge. So i boil the kettle, about 20-30mins later add the powder, then cool in a jug of cold water then pop in the fridge x

I do the same as Scally, but plenty of people are against it - as are mw and hv. This is how i made every feed for my son for a year and never had a problem. 3 years ago this was the norm and an acceptable way of preparing feeds and storing.

Exactamondo here!
I only even make up 12 hours worth in advance though

FYI, not breastfeeding at night will affect your supply...

I know it's not the current recommended way of doing things, but I boil the water, fill the bottles and leave on the bench/put in my bag etc. and add the scopes of power just before serving (room temp water). My doctor said this is fine.

Just re night feeds, as a person who is now part-time formula, part-time breastfeeding, I still tend to breastfeed at night as I find it quicker. e.g. if he wakes in the night I go and get him (or my husband grabs him), put him in bed next to me and feed laying down, then pop him back into his cot no more 15 min later (usually!). I found it quicker than getting and feeding a bottle in the middle of the night, or my husband doing it as it usually ended in me having to get up and help him get our LO back to sleep!

if you are only using formula once a day i would recommend ready made :)

Hi Mrs Q!
We use the ready made Aptimal in the cartons. I'm sure we will move onto the powder at some point but this is easier for now. Once open the cartons can be kept in the fridge for 24 hours so it depends how much your LO is having at night and if you think you'd be able to use what's left in the carton or if you'd have to throw it away.

It's against current advice but I think almost everyone makes up feeds in advance if they're using the powder. Apparently the powder mixes easier with water that hasn't cooled completely and you have to get it to room temp before putting in the fridge.

I know you're bfing so I assume that means you're feeding on demand? Your LO will still probs want to feed little and often even if having formula at night?
