Advice on how it happened..

Hello everyone,

What I need advice on is how this happened..

My hubby and I DTD without using protection for the first time in a while on the 21st Dec (Saturday). On the 28th (a week later, Saturday) I had my period, which lasted 5 days as normal. So I thought nothing of it as we weren't really ttc and carried on regardless.

Then, on the 9th Jan (a week after my period ended) a started spotting, and also a dull pain in my right ovary. The spotting was red to start with, then it turned brown, I could see I was spotting when I wiped after doing a pee, however this lasted for another 4 DAYS (!) until last Monday when it stopped for good. So the next day I went to see my GP really worried because the pain continued and they carried out a smear test, they also took a swab to rule out any infections, and the referred me to an utrasound and internal examination to the hospital. They also adviced me to buy a pregnancy test although the GP said that the chances of being pregnant were non existent.

So I bought a CB test and when I got home that night I did it.. And it turned out Im 2-3 weeks pregnant!!!!

I would need some advice on how this is possible, my husband and I are completely baffled by it!

On the flip side, I am pregnant!!! Yipee!!!

Amazing story! Bodies work in crazy ways sometimes! Perhaps your period wasn't actually your period! Anyways... congrats!

I know! If someone came up to me and told me that, I would think, you are a loop hahahaha.

Congrats on your bfp. Can I ask though are u still having pain? Are they going to investigate that? It's just, and I don't wanna be negative at all hopefully all will be well, but I just want u to be careful so will tell u my story. On our wedding night hubby and I Dtd unprotected, we were Ttc and I knew I was ovulating. Anyways 2 weeks later I had an incredibly painful af so presumed not preg. But about a week after this I started getting pain near my right ovary and started spotting brown. Anyways I thought something wasn't right so took a test and bfp. Doc was concerned about the pain so the measured my hcg levels over the course of a week they went up, then down, then up. Turned out to be ectopic. Saying that though your pain may just be from the corpus lueteum and the bleed u had just implantation so it's prob nothing to worry about, but if you are still sore I'd advise u to ask for an early scan just to ensure alls well. Hope it is. And again sorry to be a Debbie downer but I couldn't not say! Xxx

Hi, and congratulations. Have you gotten a scan yet? If not, I'd want to get one to investigate the bleeding and pain. Also, could you get your levels checked--betas? I agree with Dolly...I'd want to get checked to make sure that everything is okay.

Hello girls,

What I mean by pain, it is really like a dull pain, I am not in pain as such, it feels like it is pulling, and it has gone down since Monday, i still feel it but not that much..

Tbh, I find the whole process really freaky, something that anyone would think cannot be good news..

My GP took a sample of my urine and he said they will do a pregnancy test, so I am meant to hear from them on Monday or Tuesday, I am also due to an asthma review this Tuesday so I can ask then.

Our pregnancy was a big shock and a "... but how?!" too!

Before getting on the implant, my periods were very erratic and, more often than not, non-existent. I was on the implant for 4 years (oops) and had no period the entire time - I got that out on November 8th with TTC in mind. We waited and waited for my first period... then I felt really ill so late on a Friday night, I decided I was going to the doctor. Thought I had a stomach infection or something! I knew the doc would probably ask if I might be pregnant so I figured I'd do a test to rule it out so I can say a firm no, sent husband to asda at midnight for a test and thought he'd come back with the 2 for £1 pack. He came back with a clearblue digi xD I went mad at the wasted money so I took it and, immediately, "pregnant 3+ weeks" showed up. We were floored! Because both of us had been quite badly ill, we'd only DTD once between implant removal and BFP! We had an early scan to help with dates (midwifes are just going from date implant was removed ) and it was amazing

But congratulations!! I'm glad it happened this way - with how anxious and impatient I've been waiting for scans and first midwife appts (mine was today!), I don't know how I'd have coped if I'd known earlier!

Strange things do happen...

I suffered from recurring miscarriages, and had my last one last August, I had a D&C for a twin pregnancy end of August and we were told not to try at all, as they needed to find out why this kept happening. So we used condoms, every time, just once hubby didn't for a split second and then put one on. Went for my specialist appointment 5 weeks after my D&C and it showed the start of a pregnancy, a 5 week old one. Explain that... me and hubby were so floored the doctor left us on our own as she suspected I'd been playing away from home!! I hadn't!!!

So here I am now with a lovely little wriggly baby in my tummy, following 4 miscarriages and 5 losses the one that stuck was the one I didn't even know was coming, I'm rooting for you, please keep us posted xxxxxx

Hello again,

I ended up going to ER on Friday evening as I was light cramping at work and there was a tiny bit of a brown gooey thing after I peed at some point during the day. They did a smear test and a transvaginal u/s and they couldnt see anything ( as in empty). So because in theory it is so early they thought they could give it another chance, so they took blood and the next day they told me that the hcg levels were 1700, which is high considering how early it is, so they asked me to come in for a consultant to scan me again. So I went, the consultant did a transvaginal u/s and she couldnt find anything (all the poking has left me now sore "down there" left right and center). They are all confused and said I am in a grey area where they are not sure where the embryo is. So Im going again in 15 min for a second blood test so see what my levels are, and that will explain a bit better what is going on.

As you can imagine I have been so upset the whole weekend, and dreading it is an ectopic pregnancy.

No cramping or brown spotting so far.

Hi bumblebee. Aw I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it will be a case of just being too early. Please look after yourself in the meantime though and any increase in pain or any bleeding please go to A&E. I'm afraid my ectopic began the Same way. And the brown spotting was gungey as u describe. But this may all be coincidental and there's very chance your little bean is fine and it's just too early to be seen on scan. Please please be wary though. Ectopics can be every dangerous. I'll be praying for you that your next scan goes well. xxx

I had the same thing too. DTD on 20th and period started on 28th and lasted 5 days so thought I was my period

For some reason I decided to test on 11th Jan and got our positive. Ended up in EPAU on 17th with bleeding. Baby is fine I just seem to someone who bleeds whilst pregnant it's quite normal in the early stages of pregnancy apparently.

Going back for another scan on 30th to check the pregnancy is still progressing.

Well girls, that is the end of the road for me. The blood test came back and the hcg levels went down to 1000, the nurse said it is an early miscarriage. I am pretty upset as everything went so quickly within a week, but relieved that at least it wasnt an ectopic and that I will be able to start trying soon. I am just waiting for everything to flush itself and then we will officiallt start trying again. Good luck to all of u and thanks very much for your advice. Xx

The nurse said I will start bleeding and to do a pregnancy test in 2 weeks time. If it comes negative, that would be it. If it still comes positive, to phone them again and they will do another blood test.

I am hoping I will get some cuddles tonight, Im at work now and trying to keep my mind occupied.
