I'm thinking of making the switch to formula due to experiencing complications with BFing - DD is on day 3 of a nursing strike and I don't know how much more I can take.

So, I'm trying to work out how I'd manage FF when I'm not at home. I FF my first after 8 weeks, but he was just on any formula so I used cartons when I was away from home (he took them at room temperature).

But DD has to have Comfort formula and as far as I'm aware you can't get it in cartons. How do you get bottles ready if you are out for the day? In my head the choices are:

1) Make up bottles in advance, keep them in a cool bag with an ice block and then hope I can heat them up somewhere
2) Take hot water in a flask, take power in a dispenser, mix up when I need to feed her and hope I can cool it down somewhere

But what happens if I'm somewhere and I don't have the facility to warm it up/cool it down? We're going on holiday in a few weeks so how would I do this in an airport? Would I just have to do the second option and just mix the feed an hour before she needs it so it has enough time to cool down on it's own?

Sorry if this sounds really stupid!

Is there any other method I just haven't thought about? Thanks xx

Hi
We are on comfort milk too, lo is 6 weeks old.

What I do is sterilise bottles, boil water etc- put this water into bottles and then put into insulated bottle bags. This keeps them warm for quite a while.
Then when out I just add the formula to the bottles and done :)

Thanks! I suppose my question then is what about the whole having to add formula when the water is above a certain temperature to kill any bacteria in the powder? If it's hot enough to kill the bacteria then it'll take a while to cool down, and if it's cool enough to feed when you add the water then it's not hot enough to kill the bacteria if you see what I mean?!

Am I just worrying too much?!

I take a thermos flaSk hun , along with formula :) . I do this&its saved me so much time, hassel . If I leave home after just fed lo , with a thermos of boiling water , then its usually perfect temp for feeding . Still doesn't adress the sterile issue , but I do it this way and my lo has had no issues@all . Good luck x

my lo is on comfort but if out and about has normal cartons and is fine. rang up the company and they said would be fine.

You could take a flask of boiling water and a bottle of cooled boiled water. First put 1 oz of hot water from the flask into bottle add the powder, mix up so powder disolves then add the rest of water needed from the cooled water bottle x

I see what your saying...but my bubs has not had a prob. Your find what works for you.
We did used to take a flask- but she eats 3 hourly so flask had to be quite big and we found it a little too faffy. X

Friends who have babies on comfort milk have used 'normal' cartons when out with no problems.

My little girl is on 4oz so what I do is fill 2 bottles with 2oz cool boiled water, put in her bag, take the 4 scoops of powder in those little dispensers And take a flask of fresh boiled water.
When she wants her feed I add 2oz of the boiled water from flask to the 2oz already in bottle then add my 4scoops from dispenser.
It's always a perfect temp so no need to find somewhere to heat/cool down.

I understand this goes against the whole making up with temperature above 70c to kill bacteria etc but I spoke with HV about this and she agrees that the risk is very rare so it's completely my choice.
I done it with my son to and never had any problems.

If you rly do Want to make with water above 70c then you could just use all water from flask and powder dispenser then mix it up 15-20mins before baby is due a feed and it will have time to cool itself if you don't have anywhere to cool it x
