Advice please! planning to get docs appt and nervous!

HI all,

Sorry I might sound very silly, but I am nervous when I go to doctors, my DH is making me do an appt today, im 5+6 and he said its about time they are aware I am pregnant.

Im not to sure what to say as part of me wants to go and see the gp as im very itchy (sorry tmi) and I think i have haemorrhoids (tmi again)? its been a few weeks now and I am so embarrassed to go, but im suffering at the same time so know i have to...

My question is:

Do I call the practice (im in uk) and say hi want to see a doctor?

Or do I say I am pregnant and want to see a doctor?

Im worried if I say Im pregnant she will tell me u need to see a midwife and not a gp!

I think Im rather phobic!

Keep telling DH im calling and I dont, and dont want him to make the appt for me as he normally does!



Now I feel so silly!

Just make an appointment. See your doctor, tell him/her you are pregnant and uncomfortable in certain places, the doctor can help you with that, and then give you information on your nearest midwife centre.

Don't feel silly. Best to ring and see gp. Gp will normally refer you to mw. You are going to be seeing a lot of drs and other healthcare professionals over the coming 9 months or more xxx good luck xxxx

Oh dont worry!

Just ring your doctors and tell him/her you are pregnant.

You will be given folic acid and maybe a pregnancy test ( i didnt takea test as my doctors dont do them).

And your doctor will refer you to your midwife (my doctor passed my number on).

And also tell them about the itchyness.

Just call and tell them your pregnant and need to set up an appt. with the Dr. Hemmorrhoids isnt anything to be embarrassed about, your Dr. can give you a prescription for them. I get them all the time and have to call my gyn. to get some meds if the regular suppositories don't help. Do they prefer in the UK to see a midwife instead of a Dr? I have my 1st appt. set up Sept. 21st! Yayyy I can't wait!

So exciting!!

Have u got any different symptoms from when u where pregnant with ur boy?! I am hoping secretly for a girl too!

I have no nausea when I was riddled with it when I had DS from the start!

When I rang my surgery they said to call back and make an appointment with the nurse once I've missed my second period. Maybe they'll say the same for you.

As for hemmoroids (sp?) can't you get medicine at the pharmacy if you're too embarrassed to ask your doctor?

Your Welcome Yep in 1 week 6 days is my appt! Can't wait!! That is when we will tell the rest of our family after I get everything confirmed at the appt. I will be 7 weeks 1 day then lol. I have nothing different from my other 2 pregnancies I hope I have a girl, maybe I am just getting lucky not getting sick and may still have a girl! Don't be scared to call, that is what they are on the other end of the phone for, to direct you in the right direction on what you need to do!

Gosh how do u manage not to say?!! I was too excited planned not to say till first scan but I fell for it! called my mum and mother in law back at home, and before I knew it although I told them keep it quiet my phone did not stop ringing, have not told all my friends here in the uk tho

Its so exciting hearing them excited!!
