Me and my OH have been trying for a year and a half and haven't really been worried, but now were starting to think something may be wrong, has anyone ever bought fertility tests? If so are they worth buying, or should we just see our doctor?

Hi, the docs usually send you away if you have been trying less than a year. So you definitely would be seen by the doc and get started on the testing to see if there are any underlying issues. I would definitely recommend it as it may put your mind to rest if nothing else.

I can't say about any fertility tests as I haven't heard of them.

Do you have regular periods? This is the issue I have, only got 3 a year, have been diagnosed with PCOS.

Hi, thanks, yes i've always had regular periods, although the past 3 months there have been some changes with them, probably due to me gaining abit of weight though. We're making an appointment asap.

Good, you will have to let me know how you get on. It can take time for blood results to come back and also took a few months before I could get into the fertility clinic.

But it is all obviously worth the wait if we eventually get what we want! Are you in the UK?

Yeah i'm in the UK, my doc is abit rubbish but we're moving soon so hopefully the next one is better! The only reason I haven't been yet is because my friend asked about it an they turned her down because she's 21, they told her to just keep trying! She was furious naturally, it kind of put me off but i've been looking into it. We're willing to do anything now.

I can't believe your friend got turned away! You would think that being so young and not getting pregnant within a year would be even more reason to think there could be underlying issues, I know she isn't at the stage when chances reduce but that shouldn't matter.

Some Docs are just rubbish like you say! I think sometimes you just have to be persistent with them.

I hope u find a good doc.

P.s. I got my positive OPK this morning, yay! My tablets are working. Need to do some serious BD now, then the dreaded 2WW.

Well gl to you I hope you get your bfp, I'm going to have to use opks this month cause now i have no idea when i'm ovulating, damn messed up cycles

I took a free fertility test that came with either my pregnancy test or a pack of OPKs...I can't remember which. I think it was First Response brand. It said that I am fertile. We have been trying for a year and I have just started the fertility testing process. I have an ultrasound tomorrow and I am waiting for AF to begin the blood work. So, according to the test I am fertile and I am still waiting to see from the doctors if I truely am fertile. Sorry I can't be more help.

Don't let being young put you off to getting check out. I know that was a big fear I had when going to the doctor for the first time! I am 21 and seeing a fertility specialist now. So there are good doctors out there that CAN help you regardless of being young. Good luck

Thanks everybody, we're definately going to the doctors now anyway as soon as we find a good one!

I think you're doing the right thing - better to get the tests done properly than risk a DIY kit giving you the wrong results and the doctor/fertility clinic would more than likely want to do their own tests anyway.

Do you do anything to track ovulation like charting temps or OPK's? It might be worth giving that a go while you wait to find a new doctor to make sure that you're DTD at the correct times, plus it means you can go to the doctor with information about what happens with your body. Too many of them think we all have perfect 28 day cycles!

No, i'm buying opks and a bbt this month so I can start in October, I knew nothing about charting till I joined the forum and got more info, wish i'd known there was so much I could do before, this month is a busy month for us so we're not really trying, we're still going to do the home kits to see how they compare with the results we get from the doctors.

Oh and I always assumed I ovulated around the same time every month as I always get the same pains always have, now I'm not so certain!

As far as I'm aware, the home tests only test for ovarian reserve in women, which is basically how many eggs you have in your ovaries, which won't really give you any answers as to why you've not conceived yet, especially if you're having regular periods (that's a good sign for ovulating regularly).

The fertility clinc and my own GP have done lots of blood tests to find out what's happening with all my hormones, especially progesterone which indicates whether or not you've ovulated in that particular cycle.

I love charting - makes me feel so much more in control of TTC. Means I can time intercourse properly and know when (and if) I ov. I can't recommend it enough, especially fertility friend - love that site! :)

Good luck

Thanks, I signed up to FF today, looking forward to charting and stuff, I already feel so much better, had so many questions before!
