Hi,

I am new to this section as I have a breech baby (unsuccessful ECV yesterday) so am booked in for a C section 6 July.

Does anyone know how the afterbirth is delivered during/after a C section?

Thanks x

Hi, i have had 2 c sections, they take it out after the baby has been delivered!! You wont know a thing :winkwink: i hope this helps:shrug:

Thanks danni2kids!

How soon did you get to home after the operation?

I'm a bit nervous about it but sure it will be OK... x

My son was born on the sunday night and we went home on the Wednesday.

I didn't even know about my afterbirth. I couldn't see/feel anything and I was watching dh hold our son. The whole procedure is really quick!

Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about the afterbirth. The whole procedure was really fast. My sister was shocked she said from the time they wheeled me into the OR to the time my OH brought baby out was maybe 5 minutes tops! The stitching up was maybe 5 more minutes!

I had exactly the same situation as you - breech baby, unsuccessful ECV which was the most horrific thing i went through in the pregnancy/birth. The op lasted about 45 mins I think, but baby was out really quickly. No mention of the afterbirth at all. I was in hospital for 4 days but I could have left earlier - I was having problems with breastfeeding so chose to stay in another night. 13 weeks on and I'm back at the gym and feeling great. Good luck you'll be fine! :)

The nice thing about having a c-section is that they actually 'clean out" your uterus so the baby bleeding after isn't bad at all. It's like a normal period.

That's exactly right! I had a day or two of 'blweding' and then it became really light. Not what I was expecting at all!

Thank you everyone for your help and advice! Not so nervous now and just looking forward to meeting my baby in less than 2 weeks! xx
