I don't know where to write this, so I'm just hoping this will be right.

Excuse the bad english, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

So a few days ago we tried to give my son som formula, because I want to stop breastfeeding and we wanted to see if he liked it.
He drank 170 ml in a few minutes.
A few minutes later he threw up. 5 times. A lot.
When we changed his clothes we noticed that he was red all over his body.
We called my mother in law, who used to be a childrens' nurse. She said it most likely was that he is allergic to milk (milk protein).
We called our own nurse the morning after and she said nothing about allergies.
She just thought that it might've been a little too much for my sons belly.

My mother in law wouldn't have that, though, so she called her father, a former children's doctor. He said it was allergies as well, and wanted us to go take some tests.

Now, we've been feeding my son porridge every day for about a month (homemade, but there is a teaspoon of butter in it) without any reaction.
Also, I eat crazy amounts of butter, cheese, yoghurt, milk and cream and stuff like that and he never reacted to my milk.

I tried to give him some formula today again, but he refused, though I got him to swallow a few ml. No reaction, but maybe it wasn't enough for a reaction? He swallowed maybe 4 ml.

(and can I just say how much I hate my mother in law for not trusting our childcare and feeling like it was her job to call her father and get some tests. Like she doesn't trust us to do what's best for our son. If we wanted help from an ex doctor instead of a doctor who's actually active we would have called him our selfs. I'm just so angry with her right now.. Plus she told everyone that our son is allergic now, even though we're not sure. BAH!)

You don't say how old he is but even so if he is breastfed that amount of milk might have been more than he is used to and caused him to throw up.

Or he could have had a virus that caused him to be red and throw up and it had nothing to do with the formula.

Or he could have an allergy.

Allergy testing isn't always reliable and I'd say continuing to monitor his reaction to small amounts of milk products will probably give you more information and then you can look in to tests when you know more.
