And this is a SUPER LATE birth announcement, but I did announce it in my journal soon after his birth. lol
Here goes:
So on the 4th of July we had a normal day, and I was feeling pretty good. We went to check on our rental house, ran a few errands, went to the market, bbq'd some hamburgers...it was a good day. I was tired by the end of the day though and neither one of us felt like going to see fireworks...so we watched TV and comforted our furkid, Cocoa, who is deathly afraid of fireworks. I eventually fell asleep on the sofa and woke up somewhere around midnight.
Let me preface this by saying the whole week prior, two of our dogs, Cocoa and Mousse were acting VERY different. Especially our boy Mousse. He'd stand there and stare at me, or have to be ON me when we were on the sofa. He never left my side. He also did this the first few weeks of me getting pregnant. DH's appetite skyrocketed too...exactly what happened during the first few weeks I got pregnant. I was also having some mucus plug loss and (tmi) a ton of clearouts. But alas, I was in denial since I was about 37.5 weeks and FTM usually go overdue.![Laughing  ](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
So back to the 4th of July. I wake up around midnight and take a shower. Then DH and I hang out a bit then retire to the bedroom and watch some TV. We also had been (tmi) doing perennial massages for the previous two weeks - so we did that, and then it led to some
.
I got up to use the bathroom about 10 mins. later (~2:45am) and after I was done pee'ing, I noticed I still had a strange liquid coming out. I thought, "omg, I've lost control of my freaking bladder!!". DH comes into the bathroom area and I mention to him that I'm leaking (as I'm standing over the toilet and a steady, small stream of clear-ish liquid is coming out. DH gets a bit bug-eyed and runs around like a chicken with his head cut off and is telling me every 2 minutes to get my bag.
I mosey on back to the bed and lay down since, again, I'm totally in denial. I'm not even 38 weeks! DH keeps pestering me so I said maybe I should just call L&D and see what we should do. The hospital is 30 mins. away so I didn't want to go in if it was a false alarm. L&D said it sounds like my water broke, so I should come in but its not an emergency so don't break the speed limit. haha After that I finally get off the bed and stand up, and that's when my water broke everywhere. Soaked right through my PJ's, underwear and soaked the carpet.
I'm squealing for DH to bring me a towel and he's laughing since I'm so worried about the carpet. I make my way to the shower to clean myself off, but I just keep leaking!
Oh, I should mention I steam cleaned the carpet since I could NOT leave the house with my amniotic fluid soaked there.![ROFL  ](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/rofl.gif)
We get in the car, make our way to the hospital (which by this time its been almost 3 hours since I first noticed my water leaking). I was still in denial I suppose...that or I was so freaked out that this was it and the next time we come home, we'd be bringing a baby in with us.
Anyways, we get to the hospital just before 6am and they monitor me and take a swab to see if my water broke. And by 7am I get checked and I'm 2 cm and handling the pain ok. But by 9:30am I was withering in pain and asked for pain meds and they gave me something that made me feel dizzy...and it only helped for about 15 mins. So soon after I got the epidural. But they checked me first and I was at 6cm! It didn't take long for me to dilate to 10cm, but he was still really high up, so they let me labor him down for a few hours. But it wasn't working too well. So they had me do a few practices pushes and they said that the baby was perfectly happy in there, and not helping what-so-ever, so I'm going to have to push him out with him higher up than they'd like and him not cooperating. I guess babies normally tilt their head to get under the pelvic bone...not Eric!!
So I pushed for 2 hours an 45 mins and he finally made his arrival. I must say I could still feel the pressure with every single contraction, and I most definitely felt some burning when he crowned. Not horribly, but it startled me since I thought the epidural would mask ALL the pain. Nope. I'm sure it would have been a million times worse though. DH cut the cord and he was all smiles (with a touch of fear lol).
When Eric crowned I reached down and touched his head. And as soon as he was out and they cleared his throat of liquid they put him on me and I got to hold my little Squishy and hear him cry for the first time. I never thought I'd cry, but boy did I cry when they handed him to me. I think part of it was relief that labor was over (pushing was HARD), part was a little anxiety that a baby just came out of me, and most of it was pure love that I finally got to hold my son. The son I thought I had lost multiple times with all the bleeding in 1st and 2nd trimester from a subchorionic hemorrhage. The son we so strategically planned for and I turned into a mad scientist temping, charting, eating pineapple and sticking my legs in the air. Those days feel like yesterday, but they are so long gone now. Now I have a baby boy.![Heart <3 <3](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/PurpleHeart.gif)
Eric was 7lb2oz and 20 inches long.
