Alva Newborn? Other recommendations?

Has anyone tried Alva newborn diapers? They are a lot cheaper, so it would be easier to justify bying specific newborn diapers, but I don't want to buy junk. Also, my friend will be giving me a stash of prefolds, so are there any recommendations for whatever I need to go with those (I'm still confused by it all), especially if it could work for newborns?

The quality is good but they didn't fit my skinny baby. I find they leak through the PUL if you don't change every hour and a half or so.

I know a lot of ladies like Alva, I don't have experience though. Right now we're buying prefolds and thirsties covers.
