Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar to what I am.... my little boy was born on August 24th and is currently formula fed. During the day from about 8AM until 7PM, he will eat about three times. After that however, he suddenly wants food every hour, sometimes less than an hour! He eats between 2-3oz every feeding. I feel like he is eating too much and that I must be doing something wrong for him to be so hungry all of the sudden. All through the night he wants food.

Also, he poops every diaper change. I'll change him before I feed him and then I have to change him again when I'm done feeding him. I never get a pee only diaper. There is always poop. I am worried that he is going to get dehydrated. I'm also worried that maybe he isn't tolerating this formula well. He is on Similac with Iron. He is already getting a rash it seems--his butt is bright red, no matter how well I cover it with ointment. It is also a bit watery. There is a loose stool in there but there is also a lot of "water" too. My mom says this is not normal and that when I was a baby, I only went a few times a day. I'm worried about him and stressing myself out that he will get sick. I know diarrhea and dehydration are serious in newborns

The pediatrician was not much help. Baby has gained weight already.....he was 8lbs, 7oz when he was born and now he is 9lbs, 1oz so he wasn't concerned and took a peek in his diaper and said it looked like normal newborn poop. I just don't understand why he is pooping and eating so much. From all classes I took before he was born, they said to expect formula fed babies to feed every 3 hours or so. This is true during the day but at night, it's constant feedings. It also seems like the formula just goes right through him. I don't know if I should have him on sensitive formula or what. It is also hard to get him to burp.

I am so stressed, tired and worried, I can't enjoy any of it. He is up constantly at night. I change his diaper, feed him, change his diaper again, try to lay him down but he won't sleep unless he is being held. Then I have to repeat the process within an hour. I just don't know what to do. :nope:

3 feeds during the day for a week old baby seems too little to me. Maybe thats why he feeds so often at night to make up for the milk he is not getting during the day? Maybe try offering milk every 2-3 hours during the day and you may find that he will want less at night and only wake a couple of times for food.

With the poop issue, they really can poop alot when they are newborn so the frequency seems fine. Is it very watery? Newborn poop is quite runny, and can also be seedy. I liken it to runny grainy mustard. Although if you are worried there is no harm in getting a second opinion. xxx

my little boy was born on 14th august - so is over 2weeks but from day 1 has been taking 3-4 ounces during the day every 3 hours and the 8pm feed takes maybe 6ounces and the 11pm feed could take nearly 7 ounces....HV says its fine and that hes a healthy wee man and to keep feeding him the way I am - he dictates everything and its quite regular (3 hours) Aswell he poos after or during every feed - he never has just a nappy with pee in it. Its also quite watery and seedy but im hoping this is normal enough too...
