If it was a status update it was most likely not directed at you personally. For example, my status today is something along the lines of "Men are all idiots." There are a fair few men on my Facebook. It's my status, and it's not directed at any of them. It's just my status, because today a man at work particularly pissed me off.
Re: your friend's status. Some people do believe that when "God closes a door, he opens a window." God giveth, God taketh away. They don't say these things to be mean, cruel, judgmental. They say these things because it is what they tell themselves in order for life to make more sense. It's their thought. It's their belief.
When my brother died, I hated God. In fact, I'm not even sure I even believe in God any more. I wondered why God would take a ten year old child away from his family. I chose not to believe in the theory that God gives and takes away because he is All Powerful. I chose not to positively believe in God, because it helped me to hate the being, existent or non-existent, that took away my brother.
It gave me something to focus on.
Different people have different ways of dealing with loss or with things which make no sense to them. Some see it as God's will. Some don't see it that way at all. We're all different, and we all cope differently. You might not agree with your friend's idea, but it's their idea after all. Don't let it hurt you unless it's directed at you.
