America versus UK

Oh and another crappy thing about our insurance...

My OH could get private insurance for about $200 a month with a $2500 deductible and 80/20 co-insurance. I can get the same... but it won't cover pregnancy. I'd have to pay an extra $300+ a month for a pregnancy waiver. So not fair if you ask me!

I've read this whole thread and think its great!!! I swing from wanting to pack my family up and move to the US (better houses) and staying firmly put here in the UK ('free' medical care (all hail the NHS - Cameron keep your hands off!) and maternity leave!) :D

Oh another question what is 'ombacare' ??
To me omba comes across as a good guy but alot of Americans I talk to over the Internet don't seem to like him...

I don't think anyone really knows ! It's really this...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patient_Protection_and_Affordable_Care_Act

but people tend to call it Obamacare. As for why people don't like him... I'm not going there :nope: People seem to either love him or hate him.

another thing i always here really good things on the news about obama people always chanting his name etc. but it seems that they may be leaving out the negative.

Do you Americans ever here about our government? is it the good stuff or bad stuff?

I don't hear much about your government (although I admittedly don't watch the news as much now that LO is here). We seem to hear a lot about the royal family here. They're almost like celebs. Is that the same there?

As for Obama, the news is pretty favorable about him here. Unless you watch Fox News ;)

It's like that with every president, there's always supporters (he did get re-elected for a second term, so more than half the country, who vote anyway, do like him), doesn't mean everyone likes the way he's doing things. You won't catch me chanting his name lol, I'll just leave it at at that.

No, we never hear things about any other countries' government really, unless there's major problems going on. As the pp said though, the royals are like celebrities here (William and Kate anyway) and they're in our tabloids a LOT.

Late started and I want to add a few things sorry if j bring up old stuffs!!
One thing that always confused me was when I watched X factor a few yrs ago (Simon Crowell had X factor here for a while) we had Kelly Rowland as a judge and about one act she said it was so good she wanted to throw her pen at him. It made me giggle and she only had a couple of seconds to explain that it was a good thing. Someone explain
Do you he many of our bands I know right now 1D are pretty big by do you see many uk acts? Have u ever heard of take that (90s version of 1D if not)
Do you not use gas and air for births then. It's weird natural births aren't promoted there as here it's not in heard of to have a women birth naturally (although a natural hospital birth in the uk an commonly include gas and air as it doesn't do much just takes he edge off it was my birthing method)
I call it coke (the drink) and it is kinda like an addiction!!
Your chocolate is also alot less sweater then ours.. Try cadburys it awesome!
We don't all know the queen lol!!!!
Do you think we are all posh type ppl.. We have like your version of white trash.. We call them chavs lol you tube Jeremy Kyle show..(I think they did a us version but uk is way better!!)
I may of gone ot a little

I Said the bathroom thing to my oh and I made him laugh to which he said he will be going to the bathroom with no bath!! (We have two loos one is an ensuite) oh and loo is another word for toilet
I also remembered the other thing I wanted to say about dialect and I think many Americans are surprised about the various accents and different words that there is in the uk. It's actually quite diverse!

Eta we do hear alot about the royal family but it has always been that way so for us it's nothing major although princess Katherine has made a major difference to it.. The biggest since di

I don't think I hear any uk bands, BUT I haven't owned a tv in like ten years. So, moot point I guess. Also, is Obamacare essentially the same as Canada's healthcare?

We have the nhs which is completely free health are which we pay for via deductions of salary called National insurance (Ni) it also goes towards your state pension. I think obamacare will not be completely free but alot more will be available free.
Momma have you heard of one direction? They r uk

Adele, One Direction (although I've only heard them because of my sister, goofy boy band), Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Coldplay, David Bowie, Black Sabbath, Queen, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, of course The Beatles. :haha: Lots of popular UK bands/artists!

Ok what is copays and deductables????

A deductible is how much the patient is responsible for each year before the insurance company will even start paying. Eg under our plan, we have a $1500 deductible for the whole family. So we will pay up to $1500 of doctors fees/ lab fees/ prescription charges before insurance cover kicks in.

After you've hit the deductible amount, insurance cover kicks in BUT usually you are still responsible for a small co pay of say $20 each time you visit the doctor or fill a prescription. It can be a set amount or a percentage of the total bill. I think it's the insurance company's way of dissuading people from running to the doctor for no reason!

I thought of another: aubergeine= eggplant.

It took me a while to figure that out!

I thought of one today-

Supply teacher (uk) = Substitute (us)

I thought of another: aubergeine= eggplant.

It took me a while to figure that out!

So, the English use the French word, and the Americans use the English word?

I is confuse.

:haha:

Isnt it the American's use the American-English word because it has always been Aubergeine here. Probably introduced to us by the French I imagine and so the name stuck x

I just prefer to call it that purple thing that tastes like cardboard.
