Amniocentesis

Just looking to hear some experiences from anyone who has had amniocentesis done. I got the call that DH and I are both carriers for cystic fibrosis, so our baby has a 1-in-4 chance of having it. I am undecided on getting the amnio done. We will not terminate this pregnancy even if we would get positive results, but I just want to know! Although DH is supportive either way, he thinks it's best not to get it done because the very small risk of miscarriage is not worth knowing early. I feel like I need to mentally prepare if this baby has CF, but I'm also concerned about risks. If I decide to get it done, it will be done at my appointment in 2 weeks.

I would love to hear any experiences, good or bad. What did it feel like? Did you have complications afterwards? Did knowing really help?

Hey, after my 12 week scan where they couldnt see how much fluid was on the babies neck I had to have a blood test at 16 weeks to which I got the phonecall to say I was in a 1 : 59 chance of my baby having either down syndrome, Patuas or Edwards Syndrome.
After hours of discussion at home and with the midwife we decided to have the test as with Pataus and Edwards Syndrome it is very unlikely they will survive to birth and we needed to prepare for this having had a loss earlier in the year.
The test was very straight forward, I closed my eyes gripped my husbands hands and it was over and done with. A little pressure going in and i could feel it piercing in 2 places getting to where it had to go. I was a little sore / achy for a few days. I had 3 days off work and then went back to my office job. I did no housework or lifting and touch wood I am 5 weeks down the road and all has been fine.
