My scan is tomorrow- not sure what To expect really. What actually happens in these scans and how long does it usually take?

Tesh, where I am, the anatomy scan took slightly longer than normal scans. But my girl was being cooperative. They take measurements and check the organs eg the heart has 4 chambers. Mine took 15 mins. For people who don't know the gender this is when they usually find out as well. My doctor also told me about the placenta for the first time.

Can't wait to hear about your scan!

They will take your baby's measurements, check bone growth, organs (heart, brain etc) and take a good look at the skull and face. Pretty much just checking to make sure everything is there and growing at the correct rate. :) It's pretty stress free and goes quickly if you have a skilled technician. It can take longer depending on how baby is laying. Drinking a lot of water an hour before as well as eating helps with clearer images. For mine, I wasn't allowed to pee until after.

Wow. That's amazing! Glad that they will be checking that everything is where it should be and in working order. I will make sure To have my breakfast and plenty of fluid before I go in!

Nervous about what they will find and what we will see but excited at the same time!

just got back from my anatomy scan and it took about 15 minutes!

Got a clear look of everythin Baby was very cooperative! Everythin is perfect and on track with him no problems thank goodness.

Interestingly enough today the ultrasound tech pointed out my placenta and I asked where about is it and she said front- anterior!

I find this so bizzarre as I have felt proper kicks from 16+4 and felt strong movement from 18 Weeks every day up til now. I have even seen my stomach move on the outside where he kicks or turns! I thought that an anterior placenta made it take time To feel movement? Also when Baby kicked and moved on the screen I felt the movement at the same time. He is wriggling around as I type this lol he has actually been quite active today.

I'm glad to hear that it went well! See? No stress :hugs:

Your placenta being anterior is certainly interesting but I have read a few ladies on here have one and haven't had issues with feeling movement. :)

I had anterior placentas with my first two and this one is posterior. I felt movement from 16 weeks with DD and 13 weeks with DS and have been felling flutters and prods with this one for 2-3 weeks. It didn't seem to make any difference for me - I guess baby might be kicking above, below, left or right of placenta.

Thanks ladies! Was so confused about it :flower:

I could still feel and see movement with my last bub who had an anterior placenta :)
