I went in on Monday to be induced, I had gestational diabetes so they weren't going to let me go late and I was due Wednesday so we set the date for Monday. I was 80% effaced and 4cm dilated at the start so she broke my water and started the pitocin drip and got me set up with a birth ball in the room.
I was able to hang out comfortably on that for about 45 mins and then the contractions started coming every 5 mins or so, so I climbed into bed on my side and got out my hypnosis MP3s on my phone and started breathing through them.
Labor went rather quickly and about 3 hrs in I knew it was close, I asked her to turn off the pitocin because I knew my body had taken over and the CNM didn't quite believe it but I think she realized the monitor on me wasn't picking up every contraction I was having and they were on top of each other so she finally checked me and I was 8cm so she turned it off.
She told me she would be back in a few hours and I told her it would be sooner than that, lol, although she looked like she didn't quite think so, but I knew. She said to just make sure to page them ASAP if I felt the need to push. 30 mins later I was paging them. I was just under 10 cm, barely a lip in place, she was quite surprised lol. She said he still needed to come down the canal a bit more so to feel free to bear down with the contractions, which thrilled me!
I bore down on the next few contractions and then I knew I had to push, they didn't even have time to get all the plastic things under me to catch the gross stuff but were ready to catch and I pushed in a side-laying position and in 3 pushes he was out and it was total relief of the pain.
He was put on me and we got to bond for a good 20+ mins while the cord stopped pulsing and the placenta was delivered. Hubby was able to cut the cord and they cleaned our baby up and brought him right back to me to start nursing. He latched on like a champ.
He weighed in at 8lbs 5 oz and 20.75" long. He was gorgeous, but of course i'm a tad biased . But he looks just like his older sister, my 6 yr old. He has my family's chin and pudgy cheeks and daddy's eyes and nose.
my DD's labor was 41 hrs and 10 mins of pushing and I got the epidural at the 39th hour. This time, it was 4 hrs and no drugs and still 10 mins of pushing. I felt so much better after and none of the side effects of the epi like last time.
Here are a couple pics.

He appeared to be healthy and happy, but the next day we did find out that he had a slight heart murmur and a cardiologist was brought in and we found out he has a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot which is a serious issue involving the routing of the blue blood in his heart incorrectly. They said it's not an emergency situation because his isn't severe but it's also not mild, it's middle of the road. He will need heart surgery, they are hoping to do it around 3 months of age. They did say because he was a healthy size that if it became an emergent situation that it's safe to do the surgery even now. They are the local children's hospital and experts in this fields with neonatal specialists and pediatric cardiologists, so he's definitely in the right hands.
they said 80-90% chance after the surgery he won't ever need another surgery, but he will just need to be in the care of a cardiologist through his life in decreasing intervals as he grows up, by the time he's an adult he'll need to go every few years because I guess ToF kids can grow up and have an arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) which is something they can handle easily enough.
They let us know the warning signs to watch out for and how to know if we need an ambulance ride, and we have a 24/7 hotline # to the cardiologists which makes us feel a lot better.
It's sad and scary, but I'm glad it's not more severe and they look to know what they are doing and he shouldn't have any long term effects. The doc said he'll shouldn't ahve to have any activity restrictions and will be able to play sports and be a normal rough little boy as kids are very resilient. definitely not ideal, but just praying all goes as planned and the docs fix him up good as new.
That's about it, we came home yesterday and he's eating like a champ. He is back up to weighing within a couple ounces of his birth weight and he's doing good.
Thanks
Rae
