I have been taking iron supplements for weeks now.

I'm not sure what kind of info you're looking for... found this info...

How does iron-deficiency anemia affect my baby's health and mine?

Your baby does a good job taking care of his iron needs – he'll get his share before you do. Still, maternal anemia can affect a baby's iron stores at birth, increasing his risk for anemia later in infancy.
Iron-deficiency anemia during pregnancy is linked to an increased risk of preterm delivery and low birth weight. It's also associated with a higher risk of stillbirth or newborn death, so it's something to take seriously.
Iron-deficiency anemia affects your health as well. It can sap your energy and make it harder for your body to fight infection. And if you're anemic later in pregnancy, you're more likely to have problems if you lose a lot of blood when you give birth. You may feel dizzy, have a rapid heart rate, or have other symptoms that require you to stay in the hospital an extra day or two. You're also more likely to need a blood transfusion. And there's research suggesting that anemia may even raise your risk of postpartum depression.

At 8.8, it's really not a big problem. You're still 6 weeks away from your due date, so that's plenty of time for your tablets to work. Take them with pure orange juice, and eat leafy green veg, and your levels should come up before birth.

ive been having to take iron supplements as well.. i dont no what the risk is or anything just that i have to take these stupid pills hehe

I have always had anemia when pregnant, im a veggie so that doesnt help.
I have always had problems with those ferrous sulphate tablets. In my last pregnany they made me throw up, and apparently its quite common. Those tablets cost the nhs nothing, I think it is 26p for 100 tablets, or something like that. And they are not the most effective way of getting your iron up.
I buy Spatone sachets. You put them in a glass of juice, and you cant taste it. I just bought 28 sachets for £7 (approx) so they are not that cheap, but my iron levels shot up after I stopped taking the ferrous sulphate, and started taking Spatone. You can get them from Boots, or big Asda's/Tesco's. x

I was on ferrous sulphate 200mg 3 times a day since I was around 22 weeks pregnant. My Iron count was 7 something and within 6 weeks it went up to 11 and was told I could go to taking just 2 tablets a day but kept on 3. I haven't heard they 'cause any problems for the baby. My lil' boy is was and is fine. I didn't have any side effects apart from constipation abit at the beginning of taking them and they obviously did the job for me. What I didn't get told was how to take them properly and if I hadn't read the leaflet inside I wouldn't have known. They are best to be taken on an empty stomach with orange juice. You can't eat certain things an hour before or after such as wheat or drink milk. I'm still taking mine even though it's been 7 weeks since my lil' boy was delivered by c-section. Good luck. I'm sure you'll be fine and hope they work as well on you as they did me!
