another bottle feeding q

sorry girls lol. Im just going over the pros and cons of breast and bottle feeding as i reallyy don't know which one i want too do!! I always said i wanted to breastfeed cus its best for baby, but the more i think about it the more i don't want too, mainly because i will be spending alot of time at my ohs house, and i will feel really uncomfortable breastfeeding there infront of him dad and brother and they literally always have people round, and i don't want to have to run off upstairs for every feed. I've thought about pumping but i dont like that idea either, but i feel really selfish for saying that.

Anyway what my question is, cus what im thinking about the most is the night feeds, because i know in the day i'lll have people to help out to say make a bottle if i bottle feed or so on, but in the night, if i make up the bottlesbefore bed then just keep them and a bottle warmer by my bed, how long does it take for the bottles to warm up? Now i keep thinking and imaging ive got a screaming baby next to me dying for a bottle but having to wait for the bottle to be warmed up lol, and of course my oh will be in bed with me too and he has to get up for college at 7am 3 days a week and hopefully by the time baby comes will have a job, so it will really disturb his sleep and affect his work.

Is it a real hassle to bottle feed at night with the warming ect?

Not for us. When Hannah was younger the bottles were smaller so didn't take long to warm up. Now we actually cheat and put them in the microwave if she wakes up in the middle of the night

maddi has slept through the night since 6 weeks, but we have bottle fed since maddi was 3 days old (my milk never came through) and have never had a problem bottle feeding at night, we just added the formula to the already made cooled boiled water (as we were saying in your other thread sweetie) and then stick it in the bottle warmer - it takes 5mins max, and all of this is normally done whilst OH was off changing maddi - so if you are the one getting up i would pop the bottle on and whilst its warming just change baby and then when you're done so will the bottle.

do you no what honey - i was so similar to you - wasn't sure what i wanted to do, breast or bottle, i just was set up for both and then decided when she was here, i really wanted to breast feed but because i have a hormonal imbalance no milk, so decision made, but either way is fab honey, just go with how you feel when baby is here :) x

It would only take them a couple of minutes to warm up. What you could do though is get the sterilised cartons for a night and take up a sterilised bottle and that would be just as quick as whipping out a boob. :)

Thanks girls.. its all so confusing :( i feel bad, cus i know breast is best for my baby but i want to be able to be helped, and i really dont like the idea of pumping :( .. i just dont know what to do! x

they take a few minutes but youll find a lot of babies take their bottle at room temperature so i wouldnt hugely worry about warming it up

I will be getting a mini-frige for by the bed so i won't have to go to the kitchen to get them, is it safe to leave them out of the fridge for the night or best not too?

i remember seeing this when we were looking for maddi, we didn't get it in the end but might be something you're interested in. i'm not sure about leaving them out the fridge, its just as quick to add the formula as you go. i no my friend used to take up to be a flask of hot water to make the feeds with, i always thought that was such a good idea x

I would say it is best not to leave them out the fridge, the milk will go off unless you want to add the milk there and then into the bottle of room-temp water.

I had that. :) It was really good. x

excellent, i always wondered what it was like :) x

Yeah it saved so much hassle to be honest, and I agree with another post about while bottle is warming you do the nappy and then can feed the baby and if they fall asleep while feeding you can put them down and not have to worry. :) x

im all for breastfeeding i fed charlie untill hewas 5 months then decided to stop, bottle feeding works just as good for us we dont warm bottles tho charlie just has them at room temp if you do this from birth i imagen it wouldnt be a problem!? i dunno tho im not sure if they HAVE to be warm we never warm them im afraid!

when maddi was younger she often took them at room temperature as well, it was the summer so the boiled water just sat on the side and it was never really cold x

I think you can only leave them out of the fridge for a certain time, think its 45 mins to 1 hour so not very long.

It is hard work at first hun but once you get the knack and find a way that suits both you and the baby it'll soon fit together. Everyone does things a little differently, just find something that works for you and go with it.

It takes a couple of minutes. I actually go downstairs, get the bottle out of the fridge and warm it up and there's no screaming from Lola or anything.

Once you get in tune it is really easy and simple.

I dont find bottlefeeding to be a hassle at all! Jasmine was always good at night and only did the every 3 hour feeds for a few weeks... And then eventually went 4 hours... and eventually 5... and now is hit and miss sleeping 9-10 hours.

TBH the night feeding only lasts a few short months. And having people to help out in the day and be able to feed for you is an amazing help for anyone. Plus your OH can take part in the night feeds etc too if you wish.

Just thinking about you saying you would get a mini fridge.... not sure if this would work but it's what i do if i go out. Get an insulated bag and use the freezer ice blocks, it keeps everything cool for a long time! Would be cheaper than a fridge and take up less room!
I actually do everything the other way round to the ladies in the other posts..... I take the sterilised bottles up to bed and i have the tommee tippee containers that fit inside the bottle so i measure out the scoops beforehand. I then take a flask of 15min cooled water up stairs and when Lexie wakes for a feed i pour the water into the bottle and then add the milk. Just have to cool it down in a tub of water that i have upstairs. Then while it's cooling i do the nappy change! Same principal but i cool down instead of warming up!!
You will find a routine that suits you so don't be baffled!
Good luck honey xxx

Thankyou girls.

I have got them powder container things which fit into the bottles. So could i make the bottle up of water before i go to bed, then leave them out next to the bed and then just add the powder and feed straight away?

x
